I look forward to attending my first AIAA Aviation conference next week. I will also be a panelist for "Generative AI in Defense: is ChatGPT good enough for Aviation?" My instinct was to say-- it's too early in my career; I'm not ready. My passion for AI/ML is in data engineering, ensuring the ethical use of data collection, and working to reduce bias in AI/ML models. My work with NASA has been creating applications that streamline and optimize how we capture data. I wasn't sure I fit. I messaged my mentor, whose immediate response was, "Do it, Do it, Do it, You'll be great!" Sometimes, we all face places where we don't think we know enough- next time you face this, I encourage you reach out to someone you respect for a second opinion. One thing that I take for granted everyday at Gigster is how it takes me 2 seconds to tap into a wealth of knowledge for just about any problem. Here's how I use it: 1. I have a problem Generally these are ones that need context around them to understand the answer. Or it's a multi faceted problem that needs weaving to have answered. basically it's not google-able or chatgpt-able. 2. Condense it I'm not 100% lazy so take some time to really package up the problem I'm facing and include clear areas of confusion and where I'm needing help. 3. Ask the world Throw it out and 9x out of 10 someone has the exact answer, with context, with background, that I'm looking for. THE POWER that you feel from this is incredible.
