It's amazing how far we've come in improving the process of obtaining a 12-lead ECG for babies. In the past, the lack of ECG machines specifically designed for pediatric use presented many challenges. The electrodes were often too large, requiring tedious cutting to fit them onto the small chests of babies. The wires and cables, along with lots of manipulations, led to distressed responses with kicking and crying. As a result, the ECG recordings were often full of noises and artifacts. PCA 500 represents a significant advancement in pediatric ECG technology. Its compact and lightweight design, coupled with the use of a single pre-positioned sensor, streamlines the testing process, making it more efficient and accurate. Eliminating Blindness for Babies in the NICU Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). A devastating and common blinding disease was long considered an "unsolvable problem." In large part, it's associated with wide changes in oxygenation in pre-term babies. 🔑 The key to the problem. World Congress of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery from a parent perspective #WCPCCS2023 There is so much I now know, wish I knew sooner, and still need to learn about related to Congenital Heart Disease and we’re only half way through the week! But there is also so much I, as a parent with lived experience, can offer healthcare professionals. Patient & Family centred care is IMPORTANT. Neurodevelopmental care is important at every stage (antenatal, NICU, CICU, inpatient & outpatient) I appreciate how many patient and family voices have been included at this conference. But I need to say that families attending a conference to bring that perspective SHOULD NOT be paying out of pocket to do it. When patients and parents have to pay for travel, accommodations, childcare… you are missing out on the vast majority of experiences. I will happily speak from my perspective. I can share digital stories from other CHD patients and parents (with their permission). But I don’t and can’t speak for all experiences. So I want to leave you with this question… How are you supporting patients & families to share their story with your attendees?
