Day 1 and day 2 at #MWC are usually exhausting. You can feel the excitement of all the attendees, and of the city itself, interacting with each other one year after our previous meetings. Moving around the different halls you can clearly see the two main world trends exposed in the branding of many of the booths: #AI and #sustainability Regarding the latter, I have spoken with many of the marketing directors of those booths and it is clear that the main problem of the events and MICE industry remains unsolved: Most of the thousands of tons of the materials needed to build those booths will go to the dump next week. A transformation of the whole sector is needed, and at MUT Agency and DearPlanet® we will keep pushing our value chain and clients to move forward. This time we have had a couple of projects, once again designed from their inception to minimize environmental impact, I will share the report in the following weeks. #circularity

Communication is a matter of trust. The European Association of Communication Directors (EACD) is the home of both.
Yesterday, a group of European Association of Communication Directors (EACD)'s Dutch chapter members visited Edelman Amsterdam for the presentation of the 2024 #TrustBarometer results. The Barometer provides useful insights for every communication professional with data at a Dutch, regional and global level. The Dutch version reveals a new paradox at the heart of society. While rapid innovation promises a new era of prosperity, it also poses the risk of exacerbating trust issues, leading to further societal instability and political polarization. A majority of respondents believe innovation is poorly managed due to insufficient government regulation, lack of trust in traditional leaders, and suspicion of science's independence from politics and money. To close the trust gap will be an immense challenge for all parties in society, including us as communication professionals. The panel members Corinna Baschirotto, Head of Brand Strategy at ASML, Rinke Zonneveld, CEO of InvestNL, Roland van der Vorst, Head of Innovation at Rabobank and Zita Schellekens, Sustainability & Strategy at KLM added excellent further context and insights to the results. I look forward to being at the German Creative Economy Summit as a panel speaker this year. With a turnover of over 175 billion Euros, the 'creative industry' is not only one of the most significant economic sectors in Germany, but also a societal driving force with great innovative power. The GCES by is Germany's first national industry meeting for all submarkets of the creative industry, bringing together company representatives, creatives, and decision-makers from politics, science, associations, and national funding institutions to discuss topics that concern our overlapping markets. The theme of my panel session? Hype Culture! Shaped by asymmetric creativity and the shift of aspiration, Hype Culture might be one of the biggest challenges and opportunities of our century. Bold thesis? - Yeah, perhaps. But anyone who has dealt with digital or physical queues for new "drops" or "restocks" of beauty, fashion and tech brands or followed viral posts about celebrity product launches knows: Hypes seem to run the world. Hypes determine the value assigned to things and topics of this generation. The central question of this panel is, therefore: What would be possible if, instead of solely focusing on capitalistic profits, the creative energy and attention of our Hype Culture were also directed towards the social, ecological, and economic challenges of our future?
