The Do's and Don'ts of the Job Hunting Process Hey everyone! 👋 I know, I know—there are a million articles out there about job hunting, but consider this just another friendly reminder. Whether you’re a fresher or a seasoned professional, we’ve noticed some recurring mistakes that candidates keep making. So, here’s a quick rundown of what to do and what to avoid: ✅ Do: Research the Organization Before your interview, dig into the company. Know its balance sheet, employee count, and products. Visit their website, check out their LinkedIn, and gather as much info as you can. Being well-prepared shows that you’re serious. ✅ Do: Quantify Your Experience When talking about your experience, focus on the numbers and the impact you’ve made. Share achievements in terms of value delivered—specifics matter! ❌ Don’t: Job Hop Too Often Stability is crucial. If you’ve been hopping from one job to another frequently, it can be a red flag for employers. They might see you as a risk. Plus, staying put for a while allows you to really contribute and grow in your role. ✅ Do: Be Punctual and Communicative Show up on time for your interviews. If something comes up, inform the interviewer in advance. These small details leave a big impression. ✅ Do: Prepare for Basic Questions Have clear, specific answers ready for common questions like “Why do you want to leave/join?” or “What are you good at?” Avoid generic responses like “I’m committed” or “I want to grow.” Trust me. ✅ Do: Perfect Your Elevator Pitch Know how to showcase your work quickly and effectively. Don’t make the interviewer dig to find out that you’ve done great work—highlight the impact you’ve made from the start. ✅ Do: Read the Job Description Carefully Don’t just skim the title and headline. Read the job description word by word so you know exactly what the role entails. This way, you won’t make assumptions that could lead to disappointment later. Hope these tips help you in your job search! Let’s avoid those common pitfalls and nail that next opportunity. 🚀 Huge shoutout to Shilpa Venkatesh, Zeel Bhatt, Miloni Munshi, Pritika Shetty for the valuable insights! 🙌 #JobHunting #CareerTips #JobSearch #InterviewPrep #ProfessionalGrowth

🌟 Navigating Self-Identity During the Job Hunt 🌟 Job hunting isn't just about finding the right role; it's also a journey of self-discovery and reflection. As we sift through job descriptions, update resumes, and prepare for interviews, we're inevitably forced to confront questions about who we are, what we want, and where we're headed in our careers. The process of evaluating our skills, experiences, and career goals can sometimes feel like peering into a mirror and asking ourselves tough existential questions. Are we on the right path? Are our skills aligned with our aspirations? What do we truly value in our work? These questions can stir up feelings of uncertainty and distress as we grapple with defining our self-identity in the context of our professional lives. It's not uncommon to feel a sense of dissonance between who we are and who we aspire to be, especially when faced with the pressures of finding a job that meets both our financial needs and our personal fulfillment. However, it's important to recognize that this period of self-reflection is not a weakness but a necessary part of personal and professional growth. Embracing these challenges to our self-identity can lead to greater clarity and alignment with our values and aspirations. So, if you find yourself wrestling with questions of self-identity during your job search, know that you're not alone. Take this opportunity to explore what truly matters to you, both professionally and personally. Remember, the journey to finding the right job is as much about discovering yourself as it is about finding the perfect fit. We get it. Job hunting can be hard work. 😓 Especially when you feel like you’re getting nowhere. You’ve applied to thousands of jobs, done loads of interviews – but got nowhere. And it can be tough to stay motivated. But here are some strategies you can use to stay positive and get the result you want! ⬇️ Get in to a routine. 💪 Staying organised can stop you from feeling overwhelmed, and help clear your head. Have a set amount of jobs you want to apply to each week, or be disciplined in setting aside a certain time every week focussing solely on your job search. Get support. 🤝 You never know when a new connection can result in an opportunity. Ask friends and colleagues for advice, speak to as many people as you can in your field to try to get information or guidance. It’s all about belief. 🧠 If you weren’t offered a role, ask for feedback and learn from it – see it as a step forward rather than a setback. But don’t give up – keep being persistent! The 'Hunting' in Job Hunting As I reflect on my journey in the job market, I can't help but feel that the metaphor of 'hunting' has never been more apt. I've come to realize that ageism is not just a concern for those in their later years. In fact, it seems to apply to those in their early twenties as well. 'Too young? No job for you because you don't have 100 years of experience.' And on the flip side, 'Too old? No job for you because you have way too much experience and we don't want to pay you what you're actually worth.' But the challenges don't stop there. Gaps in your CV? What were you doing during those gaps? It’s not like you have a life and may have experienced turbulence. Have you stayed in companies for less than a year? What do you mean you escaped toxic work environments and constantly tried to find the best-suited job for your needs? The list goes on… ‘Great, your CV is perfect! Oh, wait, you're not in the country? Why give you a chance? It's not like you can buy a ticket and move countries.' Fortunately enough, I've had the pleasure of meeting incredible recruiters and industry professionals. However, I've also encountered instances that have been extremely unprofessional from large multinational companies. If a candidate takes the time to prepare for several rounds of interviews, they deserve a response, even if it's a polite rejection. This basic decency should not be an arduous task. Just because you aren't on the receiving end doesn't mean you shouldn't put yourself in the candidate's shoes. The picture I attached below actually says a lot…don’t let past experiences define your future. You are more than you think. As I continue to navigate this challenging landscape, I'm grateful for the supportive community on LinkedIn and the opportunity to share these reflections. To those who reached out and shared their stories, I wish you all the best 🙏🏻💫 #careers #humanresources #jobinterviews #recruiting #career

The most important skill to have when job hunting is Emotional Intelligence (EQ)! This subtle yet crucial skill, permeates every aspect of the job search. And here's why: 1. EQ enables ACTIVE listening to the interviewer's questions and responding thoughtfully. We don't listen mostly; we just wait for people to finish talking, so I can speak! (Notice it carefully on your next conversation with anyone! :)) 2. EQ enables EMPATHY, understanding the interviewer's perspective to tailor responses to their needs. 3. EQ enables RESILIENCE, staying confident, hence calm and composed during the job search, rebounding quickly from the panic of rejections or setbacks, and remaining positive on interviews. We panic A LOT, being impulsive. 4. EQ enables strong RELATIONSHIPS, leaving positive impressions on people while networking. 5. EQ enables SELF-AWARENESS of your strengths and triggers, allowing you to carry yourself confidently and authentically. Being genuine rather than either looking good or avoiding looking bad. 6. EQ enables ADAPTABILITY to change circumstances, unexpected interview questions, or last-minute changes in the job description. And much more, but in summary, emotional intelligence is a valuable asset in job search. By developing your EQ, you can increase your chances of landing your ideal job. With 15 years of experience in EQ, in my 1-on-1 career coaching program, not only do you experience power throughout your job hunt, but also walk powerfully into your new workplace!
