Chess is often considered a psychological sport because it requires a high level of mental focus, strategic thinking, and the ability to anticipate and respond to an opponent's moves. After all, a game of chess is all about pattern recognition, finding new opportunities, and attacking the opponent. Resilience: A Lesson from Hokato Hotozhe Sema, India’s Paralympic Hero Resilience is the ability to push through challenges, rise after a fall, and keep going despite the odds. One inspiring story of resilience comes from Hokato Hotozhe Sema, a proud member of India’s contingent at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Sema, an Indian Army havildar, suffered a life-changing injury when a landmine blast in 2002 resulted in the loss of his leg. Yet, instead of giving up, he turned this tragedy into motivation. Years later, after discovering para-sports, he found his calling in shot put. Despite limited resources and starting late in life, Sema trained relentlessly and made his Paralympic debut at the age of 40, winning a bronze medal in the shot put F57 event. Take inspiration from Hokato Hotozhe Sema’s story of resilience! Are you in the zone? In FLOW? I was introduced with the concept of FLOW more than 30 years ago (when I was training tennis) and it has helped me a lot. As a leadership coach I have been effectively using the concept at my coachings in order to create and enter these special states of total focus and engagement. Flow is a mental state in which a person is fully immersed and focused on an activity, experiencing a sense of energized involvement and enjoyment. In business life, harnessing flow can enhance productivity and creativity, leading to improved performance and job satisfaction.
