Great interview with NetApp's Marc Ender about #storage #innovations for the company's own #data center. The #cloud is an important step in the digitalization of a company. However, some data are better stored in your own data center. This is why an efficient, sustainable, secure and integrated #hybrid #multicloud environment is important. The article on managing cloud costs highlights a common misconception among organizations: the belief that migrating to cloud technology will massively reduce costs by eliminating the need for experts and personal data centers. However, this expectation often falls short of reality. While the cloud does offer some benefits, such as easier access to resources and the convenience of consistent APIs provided by cloud providers, it doesn't completely obviate the need for expertise. Instead, it shifts the focus to different types of experts. A significant advantage of using cloud providers is the standardization they bring, making it easier for companies to adopt proven tools and solutions tested by numerous other customers. This standardization can streamline processes and reduce the risk associated with adopting new technologies. However, it can also stifle innovation and risk-taking in exploring technologies not curated by these big cloud companies. In essence, migrating to the cloud often represents a trade-off, shifting from one set of challenges to another. Effective cloud management requires educated and experienced experts who can influence decisions to balance cost savings with strategic investments. As the article suggests, consultation is vital in navigating this landscape. It's essential to recognize that cloud providers, much like casinos, are structured to ensure their profitability. The cloud market is dominated by a few major players, which has its pros and cons. As with any technological evolution, some jobs become obsolete as problems are solved, but new challenges always emerge, leading to the creation of new roles. Therefore, organizations must approach cloud adoption with a strategic mindset, understanding that it's not just a cost-saving measure but a shift in how IT infrastructure is managed and operated.

🚀 The future of the cloud: More than 80% of organizations have already moved their workloads to the cloud. This shows that the cloud has become an essential part of everyday business. 🌐 But how do you get the most out of it? It's about seamlessly integrating cloud services into your business strategy to create real innovation. 💡 Respondents to IDC's survey believe that the biggest business benefits of the cloud will be the widespread digitization of all business processes, increased productivity in both IT and the business, and a more efficient use of data. This enables more accurate data analysis and better decision making. 📊 For more detailed recommendations on how to optimize your use of the cloud, including a case study, please download the IDC Executive Brief here ⬇.

Bjørnar Jensen and other McKinsey & Company experts found in their latest research "The state of cloud computing in Europe: Increasing adoption, low returns, huge potential" that cloud has become widespread in European business with over 90% of Euorpean companies ranking their cloud programs as a priority. But there a more opportunities for cloud growth. Here are 5 priorites: 1) Form mutually committed partnerships with cloud providers and implementation partners. 2) Modernize the way they work to take advantage of cloud’s advantages – it’s much more than tech. 3) Implement FinOps to optimize cloud spend and monitor the impact of cloud. 4) Be clear about ROI tradeoffs when scaling cloud capabilities. 5) Anticipate, track, and react to regulations – the regulatory environment moves quickly and varies by region. Study: German companies ready for the cloud The cloud reservations of IT managers are history. Almost half of those surveyed see appropriate cloud governance as a crucial planning and management tool, although it also entails a high degree of complexity. At the same time, many IT and business managers believe that a move to the cloud should not only be based on a cost-benefit analysis, but should also focus on the prospect of new business potential. More than a third also believe that the use of cloud solutions secures their own company's ability to innovate, and for almost 32% of them, the cloud is also an effective technology for reducing their own company's ecological footprint. The motives for the approach to cloud transformation are also revealing in this context. For example, two thirds of respondents see the consolidation and standardization of their application landscape and platforms as a prerequisite for successfully outsourcing workloads to the cloud in the first place. For almost half of employees, taking stock of their own IT infrastructure and formulating a cloud roadmap is also an opportunity to redefine responsibilities and areas of responsibility within the company. #Cloud #CloudFirst https://lnkd.in/eVGNEk-Y
