The Melting Pot Edinburgh did a phenomenal job of hosting a series of events in 23-24 on the theme of 'Bridging Communities'. The Team built connections with 33 community groups and hosted almost 350 people across five different events. Why did events work? 1. If you look at the video (gorgeously shot and edited) from their conference earlier in the year, you'll see the investment in creativity. Doing things with a bit of 'pzazz' and colour reaps rewards. 2. People want to cross-pollinate. In our algorithm-ed world, we want to take time to find people who are 'not like us' and learn from them. 3. Relationships were real. This wasn't a quick, 'Hi, you don't know me but can we borrow your community to look like we co-designed'. This was genuine investment and mutual benefit. 4. Behind every sleek event is a range of skilled professionals who make it look easy, and often glossy and slick. Among them were Helen Denny and Anna Brow. 5. Conversations weren't taken for granted. Facilitators were poised and ready to help people connect. Well, that's all lovely. Where next? Have a watch of the video, digest the report and please, please get in touch with the team if you are able to sponsor or partner the next iteration of events. The future is all about turning energy into action.... #CommunityDevelopment #SocialEnterprise https://lnkd.in/dbKraBbX https://lnkd.in/d_qndeec

A little while back, I was given the opportunity to participate in a TEDx event to share my personal story and discuss the work we are doing at the Edmonton Police Service. This was an incredible honour, and I would like to express my gratitude to Rahim Sajan , Jonathan Perkins and the team for making this opportunity possible. I would also like to extend my thanks to my incredible wife, Michelle Okere, CFRE for her unwavering support throughout this process. She had to listen to this speech repeatedly, yet she remained there to encourage me. Memorizing and delivering a speech like this is outside of my comfort zone, and to be honest, I don't remember much of it due to nervousness. Those who know me are aware that I struggle with acknowledging positive events in my life. However, I genuinely feel proud of this speech. I hope y’all enjoy it.

Strategic and creative executive director enabling boards and leaders to achieve their very best for people in the communities we serve. Experienced executive utilising skills to enable others to thrive
This is so important - the approach here is human centred not department / organisational focused - they are doing incredible things by meeting people’s needs - the things that matter to people , not always the same as that which gets measured! Finally it’s more cost effective and means practitioners take accountability for their actions - rather than assessing and referring on …. What’s not to love; adopt and celebrate !!!! #liberatedmethod
How do we break down public service siloes and flip the focus to providing the support people actually need? On this webinar, we reflected on the hugely successful “Liberated Public Services” conference held in Gateshead in March. Mark Smith, Director of Public Service Reform at Gateshead Council and Hannah Hesselgreaves, Professor of Organisational Learning at Northumbria University, joined Andrew Laird to highlight the need for initiatives like the ‘Liberated Method’ to be woven into the fabric of support for vulnerable people. By breaking down service siloes, fostering a culture of curiosity and empowerment at all levels, organisations can create lasting impact. Interested in learning more about the ‘Liberated Method’? Catch up on the entire webinar ‘Reflections on the Liberating Public Services Conference’ below to hear more from those in the driving seat of this pioneering movement ⬇. https://lnkd.in/e2P38EUd #PrioritisingPublicServices
