He has a new book, “Master of Change: How to Excel When Everything is Changing – Including You.” A thesis of the book is that change is inevitable, yet we rarely act as such. Brad writes: “Clinging to the illusion of permanence, hoping that we won’t be struck by change, that we’ll stay more or less the same, is misguided at best and leads us to suffering at worst.” An improv mindset asks individuals to assume we don't know what's happening next - because we don't. It's a really useful skill when navigating change and ambiguity, yet we rarely get to practice that skill in life and work. Unmasking Perfection: The Illusion of Protection. As psychotherapists, we often feel the pressure to exude perfection in every session, believing it's the benchmark of being 'good enough.' This mindset, however, became a wall, blocking my personal growth and self-acceptance. It took me considerable time to dismantle this barrier and understand that my quest for perfection was actually a form of self-rejection. I was denying my individuality, my unique journey of growth, and learning. Embracing my imperfections, paradoxically, opened the door to greater effectiveness in my therapy sessions. It's in our flaws that we find our strength, and it's this strength that enhances our connection with our clients.
