Celebrate employees when they are leaving you! Too often, I see employers look the other way when an employee is leaving their department/company/organization, etc. They act as if the employee is disowning them & as if that employee “owes” them something more. Well, that employee doesn’t owe anyone anything. I’ve recently had a couple of team members leave for better opportunities. Unfortunately, we could not offer the same opportunity or match it to some degree. And yes, if I could change things to keep them I would. But, because they’re great & they deserve the growth & financial opportunity, I’d rather see them leave than stay and neglect those opportunities for themselves. When employees see that you truly care more about their personal growth and not just retaining bodies, they do what they can to come back and work alongside you again. Do not look down on opportunities that others receive when you know you would not do that for yourself.
