How do you give a HAND UP that equips and inspires people without creating dependence? 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏿🤷🏾♂️ We think it starts with finding local people with the skills and passion to help others. 🫱🏼🫲🏿⁣ ⁣ In Grassroots Rwanda, we fund the start-up of Self Help Groups made up of 20 women who come together for life to form individual and collective businesses that will support themselves, their families and their communities. 🇷🇼 But the first six months are the equipping months. 🏋🏾🏋🏼♀️ A time to train in the many skills needed by the microentrepreneur: literacy, numeracy, goal setting, financial management, sales skills & entrepreneurship, agriculture & animal husbandry. 📚💰✏️📖🐄🐐🐓 So, who do we turn to facilitate the groups and coordinate the training? 🤷🏼♀️⁣ ⁣ Local women, women just like Virginie. 🙍🏿♀️ Virginie was poor and struggling to provide for herself and her family. 😔 But as a community facilitator she earns a small stipend and finds herself in a role that is also equipping and empowering her as a village leader. 🙋🏿♀️ She is learning to start a business and watching the women she coordinates make great personal strides. 🙌🏾⁣ ⁣ The women don’t look to Virginie to ‘carry them’. They know this is not possible. Instead, they understand the necessity of holding hands and walking together. 🚶🏾♀️🚶🏿♀️🧡🧡🫱🏿🫲🏾
