There are some killer stats in this new report on connected TV from the WARC Media gang. Key insight: connected TV is so far failing to bring new money into the TV sector. There's no doubt connected TV is growing - CTV ad investment is expected to reach $25.9bn globally in 2023, up 13.2% year-on-year. But there's no sign of a hockey stick - we compare CTV growth with retail media and find that retail media was growing 3x as fast at the same point in its development. CTV growth is essentially moving money around as linear TV revenues decline. So what we have is a relatively stable ad investment number on the buy side, going to a sell side that is fragmenting and in many areas yet to mature. h/t Alex Brownsell and Celeste H.
