How do public health officials, healthcare providers, and school staff perceive impacts of the 2019 Massachusetts' statewide law to ban flavored tobacco products? We examine their perceived impacts through a health equity and racial justice lens, highlights of what we learnt include: * Key informants perceived the law could either benefit or affect groups and communities that use tobacco products at higher rates * They were concerned ongoing availability of flavored tobacco products would impede the law from reaching the maximum intended impacts for health equity and racial justice * They were concerned that policy and enforcement may unfairly target certain communities and lead to potential negative impacts on residents and retailers within those communities * Efforts that engage and empower the community to take action for their community’s health could be important for tobacco control policies to achieve equitable health impacts For more details of this study and findings, here's the link to the full paper: https://lnkd.in/eUPY_ACZ

In light of recent events in the pharmacy world, it's imperative for us to pause and reflect. Both as a practicing pharmacist and recruiter, I've gleaned several insights from this week's walkout at a large USA pharmacy chain. 1️⃣ Balanced Workload: 📊 Burnout isn't just a buzzword. Overloading our professionals compromises patient care and can result in errors. It's a call to prioritize well-being and balance. 2️⃣ Open dialogue is key: 🗣 Communication bridges gaps. It's essential to have channels that foster feedback and address concerns before they escalate. 3️⃣ The Heart of Healthcare: ❤️ This week's events reaffirm the critical role pharmacists play in public health. Disruptions have ripple effects in communities, emphasizing the need for stability and respect in our profession. 4️⃣ Strength in Unity: ✊ The importance of collective bargaining and union representation cannot be understated. It's a testament to the need for supportive structures in our profession. 5️⃣ Awareness is the First Step: 💡 Such incidents shed light on systemic challenges. In my view, the biggest obstacle to health in the U.S. today is the lack of trust that the public holds for medical care, for public health systems, and, ultimately, for the government. This distrust that is so widespread that we saw surface during the pandemic, that we see in anti-vaccine campaigns, for example, is in many cases quite legitimate. We have not built systems that earn the public's trust.

Medical practitioners should be careful when posting on social media. Ensuring that you do not post or communicate material that could be seen as offensive or bring the profession into disrepute - even on your own personal or private accounts - can minimise risk.
