𝙈𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖 𝙈𝙚𝙙𝙖 I will start from a story I’ve recently told to my kids in our bedtime routine… Imagine two brothers, two superhero boys named AC and DC. Imagine that they've always been fighting each other. They only shared one thing in common, their family name: Voltage. One day when there was a huge storm in Electropolis, the city where they lived. They realized that they only could succeed to bring back the power to this city if they worked together. So this is the story of developing DC: to go through our energy transition storm, we need to develop DC to work hand in hand with AC. We need to take the most out of both the technologies. 𝘾𝙪𝙧𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙩/𝙊𝙎 What is the benefit of DC? 𝙈𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖 𝙈𝙚𝙙𝙖 For the final user there is no difference within AC or DC: compared to AC, DC may have an easier integration with some renewables as solar, where the generation and storage systems naturally operate on DC. Furthermore, in certain applications beyond renewables (e.g. marine, telecommunication) DC is demonstrating advantages. However, we can’t forget the extensive installed base of AC infrastructure, which remains fundamental to our power distribution networks that we cannot expect one to replace the other 1:1. By embracing DC where it makes sense, especially in microgeneration and renewable integration, we can overcome many of the distribution challenges we face today, by moving towards more decentralized energy generation. 𝘾𝙪𝙧𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙩/𝙊𝙎 How is ABB engaging with other industry partners and the Current/OS initiative to drive the implementation of DC?
