America's Seed Fund Road Tour is a national outreach effort to connect innovators and entrepreneurs to non-dilutive, technology funding opportunities provided through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs, known as "America's Seed Fund". Federal Agency representatives will be onsite ready to meet with companies attending the event to help attendees navigate over $4 billion in early-stage funding opportunities available through America's Seed Fund. The SBIR/STTR program is a federal contracting/grant program that obligates roughly $4.5B per year to small businesses across the country! What a privilege to join the conversation with Steve Case and Nicole Small at Pegasus Park today in Dallas. A few take-aways that resonated: 1. Most net new jobs come from startups (one reason we love them!) 2. Almost 3/4 of VC goes to three cities 3. Emerging ecosystems can thrive with cultivation and patience These take-aways tie to our belief at MassChallenge: 1. Startups rock; they inspire, solve and contribute 2. Opportunity and resources are not equitably distributed 3. Ecosystems need cultivation and care Personal thought: what is described above requires infrastructure and investment. Infrastructure is public gain (philanthropy, government) and investment is private gain. You need both to jumpstart an ecosystem.
