We want to have New Earswick Pool as our home for swimming lessons (& more) for a long time to come so we are really excited that the plans (that our Louise got a sneaky peek at a couple of months ago) have now been submitted for approval!! FoNESP have drawn up ambitious plans to totally transform the building which includes: 🏗 Demolition of the existing changing rooms & spectator gallery. 🏗 Creation of a mixed sex community changing village with cubicles. 🏗 Relocation of the spectator gallery to the first floor, accessible by lift & stairs. 🏗 Installation of solar panels, battery back-up & an air heat pump to reduce energy costs & make the pool more sustainable to run! The plans can be viewed on the CoYC planning portal – click here for full details: 🌐 https://lnkd.in/eJVUpB7Y It's really important that the cyc planning committee see the value of this upgrade to the users & wider comminuty, so please let them know before the consultation deadline (26th August) ... and if could tag (&/or let) your friends (know) and ask them to do the same we (& the Friends of New Earswick Swimming Pool) would be very grateful. Thank-you in advance for your support! ............................. Additional Info From FoNESP: WE NEED THE HELP OF ALL OUR FRIENDS, SUPPORTERS AND SWIMMERS PAST & PRESENT. FoNESP have submitted a planning application to City of York Council (CoYC) for a total redevelopment of the pool building which is is now 57 years old and in desperate need of modernisation. If we don’t take action, then it’s unlikely to last another 5-10 years. PLEASE GIVE YOUR SUPPORT by letting CoYC know just how much the pool means to you. You can do this on their online portal or via email or by post – full guidance on how to add your support can be found here: 🌐 https://lnkd.in/eRxUkiRb ✍️ If you are responding by email or post please quote the application reference number 24/01298/FUL #SwimSchool #SwimmingPool #Swimming #SupportLocal #SupportLocalBusinesses #SupportSmallBusinesses #Charity #York #NewEarswick

When you think of Surfing what comes to mind? Baywatch, blondes, stoners and slackers? How far that is from the reality. Surfing isn't just a sport; it's a powerful force for good, impacting mental health and environmental sustainability. Beyond the exhilarating waves, surfing offers solace and healing, acting as a therapeutic outlet for those battling mental illness. The serenity of the ocean and the physical activity of surfing combine to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, promoting overall well-being. Moreover, surfers are at the forefront of environmental conservation efforts, recognizing the crucial role oceans play in our ecosystem. Surfers witness firsthand the impact of pollution, plastic waste, and climate change on our coasts, inspiring a deep commitment to preserving our oceans. Through initiatives like beach clean-ups, plastic reduction campaigns, and sustainable surfing practices, surfers lead by example in protecting marine environments for future generations. By harnessing the collective passion and energy of the surfing community, we can drive positive change both in mental health awareness and environmental sustainability. Its great to see the interest in surfing growing in the GCC. Recently Kelly Slater showcased his talent in Abu Dhabi and outside of Riyadh a surf area is being built in the new theme parks. How can we further leverage the power of surfing to drive positive change in our communities? #surfing #positivity #change

Guinness World Record achieved! ⛷️ 30 countries in 27 days, 22 flights, 30,000 km, erupting volcanoes, 90mph gales, pneumonia, and countless challenges – all conquered for two amazing charities Saint Francis Hospice & The National Brain Appeal Here are my 3 key takeaways: ⛰️ Micro-goals conquer mountains: My initial ‘30-in-30’ plan hit snags facing serious setbacks by day 4. Croatia had no snow, and I was refused entry to Bosnia and other Schengen countries. Landing at '23-in-30' didn't quite have the same ring! Adapting to a "one country at a time" strategy, with small wins fuelling progress, allowed me to break the current record of 17 before regrouping and focusing on the remaining 12 countries. This strategy is key for any large goal in business or life. As Robert Collier said, "Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day-in and day-out.” 🛫 Together, we go further: An African proverb says, "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go as a team." After skiing 16 countries in 11 days, my challenges multiplied tenfold. I was required to accomplish the World Record solo. Yet, friends, colleagues and family went above and beyond to help where they were allowed. From charity donations and plane tickets to organising national TV and radio coverage and raising awareness for the charities, the support was endless and incredible. This experience was an invaluable reminder of the importance of teamwork in achieving goals, both in personal adventures and in business endeavors. 👌🏽 Embrace the pivot: As Mike Tyson said, “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face." The universe throws curveballs and the Guinness World Record journey reminded me of the importance of adaptability. Sometimes we have to take the long road to reach our final destination and along the way we might need a pivot to get there. Trust that detours can lead to even greater success. Adapting quickly to new circumstances can make all the difference in business and life. If you wish to help transform a life today and would like to support these causes, click here: https://lnkd.in/eTj4RJYh Huge thanks to everyone who helped me support such worthy causes and achieve this incredible milestone! #GuinnessWorldRecord #BusinessLessons #Teamwork #Adaptability https://lnkd.in/eAABnhqj

My Brother Steve Stansfield Charity Swim I will be supporting my brother as part of the support crew and will keep people posted live On 27th July 2024 (weather dependent) (Steve says)will be swimming from Spurn Point, to Brighton Slipway, Cleethorpes (tide dependent). To achieve this, I will be swimming, as the tide goes out which will push me out into the North Sea, continuing south across a fast water channel and swimming into Cleethorpes as the tide comes in. This has been an itch that I have needed to scratch for a few years now! The approximate 3 hour swim, is in aid of the local Sunflowers Children’s Action Group. This is a small, volunteer run, local charity formed in 2019 to create special, inclusive activities for children who suffer from Life -limiting and/or life-threatening conditions. I have volunteered for the Sunflowers since its inception and have seen first hand how much the children enjoy the parties and many events which the Sunflowers group hold for the families throughout each year. Due to the children’s life limiting/life threatening conditions they often miss out on parties and special events and many endure harsh and painful treatments. Most have lengthy school absences and lack quality time with families and friends. The children may suffer every day for the rest of their lives and sadly, some face the prospect of much shortened lives. I have been open water swimming for a few years now, in Cleethorpes, long distances in the Lake District and Dock races. It’s taken 3 years of training to get to this point, having to pause to overcome open heart surgery. However, I am determined to achieve my goal to swim the Humber mouth and raise some much needed funds for Sunflowers Christmas party. Please donate what you can using the link below and put a smile on the children and their families faces. For our corporate friends please find the Sunflowers bank details: Sunflower Children’s Action Group Account Number: 53637417 Sort Code: 20-63-28 A receipt or pro-forma is available on request. News Update: Team Ocean extend their ‘Aquawareness’ mission - From Summit to Sea and Sea to Summit As a team of four adventurers, it is our mission to raise awareness for clean and scarce (drinking) water and that's why we are rowing the Pacific Ocean. Our campaign #Aquawareness recently kicked off and we are receiving a lot of positive reactions from our partners and our greater network. For us, the success of this mission is only realised when we make the greatest of impact together, and that is why we have decided to extend this rowing expedition into next year. Most interestingly we are in talks with a title sponsor who totally embrace this longer term mission and the impact it will create. This year we will be planning a rowing expedition in Europe. The idea is to row from the mountains in Switzerland (where glaciers will have disappeared by 2040, impacting our rivers and our freshwater supplies) via the Rhine towards the North Sea. And in 2025 we will pursue our original expedition of rowing 4,500 km from California to Hawaii, topped by a climb to the highest mountain, Mount Kea. So our expedition spans from Summit to Sea in Europe, and from Sea to Summit in the deepest ocean ...all connected by water. Our vital source of life. This new and exciting plan provides more opportunities to increase our water awareness theme together with our partners and sponsors. It will foster a larger community around ‘water’ that will cover more European countries and provides an exciting foundation for more team training. At the same time, it also gives Wilco time to recover from his shoulder injury 🙂 Our shore team (of 15 professionals), all our partners and sponsors are excited to make this a big success. We trust that you’ll continue to support us in this journey too. Let's embrace this mission together! #Aquawareness Wilco Van Rooijen Sara Eenhoorn Bela Evers Bram Mayer

Chief Executive Officer at Surfers For Climate. Building the capacity of surfing communities around Australia to embrace climate action and draw a line in the sand on new oil and gas in our ocean.
There’s a bit of depth to unpack regarding the recent announcement of our partnership at Surfers For Climate with Polestar in Australia. First up: in environmental advocacy, the first criticism is that you’re a part of the problem whilst trying to solve the problem. Sometimes labeled a hypocrite, always never doing good enough to open up your mouth about the issue and the way forward. Our partnership with Polestar helps as ‘walk the walk’ on climate action as well as save money fueling our mission on Australian roads. Secondly: I’ve always wanted to position Surfers for Climate as a partner to brands who are values aligned, keen to back us in our work, and put resources into engaging their audiences for us. The amplification of the mission and vision of a small non-profit like us is critical to our growth and impact. I recently sung the praises of the team at SKIPPER for leaning in as excellent partners. Polestar through this investment in us, is another excellent partner. Thirdly: I cut my teeth in environmental work originally in Sweden with my dear friend Alexander Lidgren a decade ago now. I remember when I visited again in 2023 we visited the Polestar shop in Malmö and I thought then, “how cool would it be to partner with this crew?” Well, we did it. I love the connection back to Sweden where it all really began for me. So there you go LinkedIn. Enjoy this partnership content, forgive my cutback that is clearly me falling off… and if you’re ready this, and watching the content thinking “that’s cool, I want to get involved with Surfers for Climatw in the same way Polestar has, then take notes (because this is the gold standard) and get in touch. Also, if you’re looking for some sexy wheels with a lower impact and cost, consider getting behind the wheel of a Polestar. I can attest to the pure thrill and ease that they provide. Huge thanks to Jonathon, Max and the whole Polestar Australia team 🤙🤙 Also wonderful to work with my mates Adrian Emerton and Caleb Graham on this piece 🤙
In the wake of World Ocean Day on 8th June, Polestar is proud to partner with Surfers For Climate, the non-profit encouraging surf communities across Australia to help turn the tide on climate change. Sharing Polestar's ambitions for a climate-neutral future, Surfers for Climate encourages the surf industry to embrace sustainable solutions that reduce the environmental impact of surfing.
