🌍 Peatlands are like sponges, soaking up and storing vast amounts of carbon Although covering just a small fraction of our planet's surface - 0.3% to be exact - the wet peatlands areas hold significant value that deserves our consideration and protection. This ecosystem stores over 500-600 gigatons of #carbon, second only to oceans. Tropical peat swamp forests in Southeast Asia are home to numerous endangered species, this includes: 🐘 Pygmy (Borneo) Elephants 🐻 Sun Bears 🦧 Orangutans Countless species also consider the British #peatlands their home, such as: 🦅 Hen Harriers 🦌 Red Deer 🐇 Mountain Hares The Peatland Protection & Restoration project in Sumatra, Merang, is reviving, safeguarding and rehydrating 22,900 hectares of peatland rainforest in Indonesia. This effort has effectively prevented the emission of more than 2.6 million tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere. 👉 Follow the link bellow and learn more about the benefits of peatlands #Ecosystems #ProjectEarthly #Earthly #NatureBasedSolutions #SustainabilityStrategy #ClimateChange #Sustainability #SustainableBusiness #ResponsibleBusiness #InvestInNature
