Japan's Transport and Tourism Ministry is tackling road congestion, pollution, and labor shortages with an ambitious plan. Their solution? A 310-mile #automated underground system to transport packages between Tokyo and Osaka 📦 This project aims to handle the #cargo of 25,000 trucks daily and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. And they're sparking a trend—countries like Switzerland, China, and the Netherlands are exploring similar systems. Do you think this will be a game-changer for #transportation, or will it fall flat? 🤔

🚚 Automated Logistics Link Between Cities for Efficient Transport of Goods 🚀 🔧 Japan's Transport Ministry has proposed a revolutionary automated logistics system linking Tokyo and Osaka. This system could transform goods transport via median strips and underground tunnels along expressways. 🚄🛣️ 🔍 Why Now? The boom in online shopping has doubled small parcel deliveries over the past 30 years. By 2030, a labor shortage could leave 30% of packages undelivered. The new automated system aims to mitigate this issue, potentially handling cargo equivalent to 25,000 truck drivers daily. 📦📈 🔋 How It Works: The system would use pallets capable of carrying up to a ton of small-sized cargo, such as agricultural products and daily necessities. The route, intended to be operational by 2034, is part of Japan’s strategy to address both logistics crises and greenhouse gas emissions. 🌱🔄 💸 The Cost Challenge: Building this infrastructure is expensive. Estimates for underground tunnel construction range from ¥7 billion to ¥80 billion per 10 kilometers. A Tokyo-Osaka link could cost up to ¥3.7 trillion. To manage these costs, the ministry is considering private sector involvement and creating a diverse participation organization. 💰🏗️ 🗣️ Official Statement: "This project will not only address the logistics crisis but also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions," said Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism Minister Tetsuo Saito. The ministry aims to expedite discussions and move forward swiftly. 🌍⚡ Follow our page for more updates on groundbreaking tech and infrastructure projects! 🌟📢 #Logistics #Innovation #Japan #TechNews #AutomatedTransport #GreenTech

Research by Dr Yen Dan Tong and Dr Julio Mancuso Tradenta from the La Trobe Business School offers new hope for reducing pollution and improving transport policies in developing nations like Vietnam. “Air pollution is an ongoing issue in Vietnam. The Vietnamese government has made commitments to reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions by introducing motorcycle bans by 2030 in four of its major cities,” explains Dr Tong. “This proposal has been controversial as motorcycles are the primary mode of transport in Vietnam.” “There was a lack of evidence to show how effective the ban would be in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and that’s what we wanted to find out.” The research, in collaboration with Can Tho University in Vietnam and the University of Southern Queensland, suggests that the reduction in emissions by substituting motorcycle trips with active travel is significant. “Active travel is any kind of transport that is based on human physical activity, such as walking or cycling,” says Dr Mancuso Tradenta. “We found that 65 percent of individuals used their motorcycles to travel less than 5 kilometres. If most of these trips were replaced by active travel, 22 percent of greenhouse gas emissions could be reduced.” “These are exciting findings that could help to inform the development of improved transport policies that promote active travel in developing nations and, hopefully, lead to a better environmental future.” Read more: https://bit.ly/3UNBGEg #LaTrobeBusinessSchool #LaTrobeUniversity

It’s interesting to see how Japan is planning for the future population decline with this really unique project. The government aims to connect major cities with automated, zero-emissions logistics links, starting with a route between Tokyo and Osaka by 2034. This system will transport millions of tons of cargo, significantly reducing truck usage. Amid concerns of labor shortages by 2030 due to population decline, Japan’s approach addresses both environmental and logistical challenges. https://lnkd.in/guEXJVsf

We frequently discuss the significance of diet, exercise, and lifestyle in relation to our health and overall well-being. However, one often-overlooked aspect is the quality of the air we breathe. From the moment of our birth to our very last breath, breathing is a fundamental function we all tend to take for granted. But how often do we genuinely reflect on the purity of the air entering our lungs? Personally, I find it inspiring that Stockholm is taking a firm stand on air quality. Enhancing the environment holds benefits for everyone, including tourists. Scandinavia's primary allure lies in its promise of breathtaking natural landscapes, sustainable living practices, and a closer connection to nature. There's no reason why these attractions can't extend to its cities as well!

𝐀 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐧 Public Transportation 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 (𝐏𝐃𝐅) 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐝 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 (𝐞𝐏𝐃𝐅)- https://lnkd.in/dW85-Xd6 The global #publictransportation market is anticipated to reach USD 374.15 billion by 2030, expanding at a CAGR of 7.6% from 2023 to 2030. Government authorities and travel agencies in developed regions are extensively working on modifying road pricing strategies associated with traffic congestion and pollution challenges. In December 2021, the World Economic Forum, in its Sustainable Road Transport and Pricing report, stated that several cities, including London, Singapore, Stockholm, and some of the developed cities in the U.S., are implementing ‘congestion pricing’ strategies to reduce traffic congestion on the busiest roads of the cities. Consequently, local authorities aim to curb traffic congestion while enhancing public #transportation, contributing to market growth.

RoPax Magazin spoke with Scandlines CEO Carsten Nørland about the next activities and projects of the German-Danish ferry company. About sustainability: “Since we commissioned the double ended ferries in 1997 on Puttgarden–Rødby we now use half of the fuel with the same number of crossings.” “The vision is to be 100% emission free in 2030 on Puttgarden–Rødby.” About the new freight ferry: “In the beginning, we will charge only at the Danish side. The energy will be green. The grid in Germany is not ready and they need more time. The charging time for the batteries will be only 17 minutes. That is for a full round trip.” About tourism: “People want to travel more. But, we see the Swedes are still missing a little bit due to the weak Swedish currency and the higher petrol costs.” Read the full interview starting on page 14: https://bit.ly/44L5cwK #scandlines #sustainability #tourism
