I found this story in Progressive Grocer the other day. While the catchy headline points to their Top 10 Most Sustainable Grocers (congrats to the deserving) the REAL story is in the first paragraph. Shoppers are taking a store’s commitment to sustainability into account when deciding where to shop....and the number will grow over the next year. To succeed going forward, retailers must market their efforts to shoppers the story says. The excellent work supermarket companies do to help our environment is not easy to “dumb down” for the average shopper, like me. Its technical. Its complicated. It’s un-relatable to most of us. Grocers need a simple way to communicate their efforts. If done properly, eliminating single use plastic bags offers a simple and effective way to leave a positive and personal message of a store's environmental efforts to customers. Shoppers see and feel the elimination of plastic bags every time they come to the store. The opportunity to leave the right impression is huge. When we designed the Joey Pouch that communication capability was built right in. I cannot think of a more visible platform to build awareness tied to the elimination of single use bags than we offer any retailer. If that study highlighted in the PG story is right, we are a very impactful tool in building awareness of your efforts....and in gaining new customers. If you’d like to discuss this in more detail, please reach out. #walmart #kroger #albertsons #publix #progressivegrocer #supermarketnews #grocerydive #wholefoods #topsmarkets #pricechopper #acme #pathmark #stopandshop #gianteagle #aldi #lidl #keyfood

As someone who meal plans, loose vegetables are so so important so that I don’t put unused, gone off vegetables in the waste. 1 carrot for your recipe is more efficient, cost effective and considerably less wasteful to buy loose than a whole bag!! I love that Waitrose & Partners is investing in understanding customer shopping habits in this area! It’s a chance to delve into the reasons. Looking forward to seeing the results, and the #POS is 👌🏻. #supermarkets #plasticfree
At Waitrose & Partners we’re committed to selling more loose fresh produce (ie without packaging) - but although it’s what many customers tell us they want, it doesn’t always sell well! We’re looking at how our point of sale messaging can encourage shoppers to go packaging-free - and support the call for regulation in this space so no retailer is at a competitive disadvantage by doing the right thing for the planet. https://lnkd.in/eHwhPcUb Catherine David Catherine Loader Nathan Ansell Russell Crowe Benjamin Thomas Kate Knight Denise Mathieson FIMMM Madeleine Wilson Marija Rompani

Along with wanting to expand their private-brand lineups, food retailers see opportunities with the labels – for instance, using labels to build value, not just tout savings, and to cater to consumers’ desire for more in-depth product and ingredient information. Sustainable packaging is a focus too. Quick read from Supermarket News. #OnTheJobAtEpson #EpsonLabels #DigitalLabels #DigitalPress #DigitalPrinting

Misfits Market's growth strategy is merging #innovation with #sustainability. Following its acquisition of Imperfect Foods, the company now delivers to 90% of U.S. ZIP codes. Misfits has broadened its product offerings, focusing on reducing #foodwaste and greenhouse gas emissions by capturing surplus and short-dated products. "The online #grocer also works with companies like #Boston based technology firm Spoiler Alert, which connects #CPG companies with retailers to help manage excess and aging #inventory. Some of those products are sold at a #discount, while others are upcycled and added to the Misfits private-label brand." With streamlined delivery networks, the company also enhances environmental sustainability and customer experience.
