In celebration of #NationalInternDay, Seventh Sense would like to shine the spotlight on our own summer interns. First up...Hunter Hair. Hunter is interning at Seventh Sense is our IT Division. He recently graduated from James Madison University (JMU) with a BBA in Computer Information Systems. His passions include music, world history and basketball. Hunter created two albums in the past year and loves all genres of music. He's also always eager to learn about world history, specifically in the realms of leadership, governmental structure, philosophy and religion. Hunter is always down for a game of pick-up basketball game with friends. What attracted you to Seventh Sense Consulting (SSC)? "SSC initially stood out to me because of its innovative approach to the way we look at work. Being a fully remote company that is successful and efficient at this scale is very impressive and a place that I want to be." What do you hope to learn during your time at SSC? "During my time as an intern, I hope to learn as much as I can about the company and its processes, as well as consulting in general. One day I hope to also understand what all the abbreviations that the government uses mean because right now I feel like people are talking a different language sometimes." 😀

Back in college, my whole world crashed when my dream internship got cancelled at the last minute. Imagine landing your dream internship or externship, only to have it vanish before it even begins -- because the company didn't have the time or resource to support you any longer. 🕰️💔😢 That happened two decades ago during my undergrad experience at MIT, a pivotal moment that highlighted a glaring issue in our approach to professional development. With our recent name change to Extern, Inc. and re-branded website to extern dot com, it made sense to lay out Extern's vision for everyone more clearly in a multi-part series, titled "The Case for Inventing a New Form of Work Experience: the Externship." 🚀🌟 I start off with a breakdown of why the market desperately needs a new form of work experience: https://lnkd.in/g4EvWuzn (oh and that's a throwback photo from 2 decades ago of me working on a computer science problem set with some fraternity brothers.) Summer isn't quite over yet -- but our time with these wonderful interns is quickly coming to a close...they grow up so fast! :-) Our summer interns, Elizabeth Neeser, Sophia Schueller Jeremiah Staten, put together a wonderful presentation outlining ways to help build the Br8kthru Consulting community. Some key themes: -leveraging video rich media (think 'day in the life' or something like Vogue's 73 questions) -hosting a skills-building workshop on some of the latest trends (AI, threads, etc.), led by strategists on our team -Additional speaking engagements expos, with an opportunity to expand our reach into underserved communities What also hit hard: they used the "we" pronoun in referencing the team--meaning our efforts to be inclusive are working. They are most certainly part of the team our community. The future is bright for these three. #learning #continuousimprovement #community #brand #interns

Delighted to share an article I authored during my summer internship at the Capital Research Center in Washington, DC. The piece delves into the potential risks faced by companies engaging in identity politics, drawing insights from the Bud Light backlash, Target, and a few other relevant case studies. This author suggests that we’re living in a rare period in history where six generations are working together, from the octogenarians of the Silent Generation who are still in leadership roles to the teens of Generation Alpha, who are entering internships. A health system the size of ours at UVA Health is certainly one of those environments where diverse and intergenerational work is the norm–a “6G organization.” Here are suggestions for ways that we can rethink and celebrate generational differences on our teams: https://bit.ly/49y02pO
