Is brand marketing dead 💀? I've done FMCG recruitment now for 20 years and I've never seen the jobs available for marketers to be so so so few. Seeing Influencer or Social Media roles that require 10 years of experience is insane 😂 1) Lower your expectations if you're hiring for an influencer manager role. That wasn't a job a year ago. While someone may be well-versed in engaging with influencers, no one has 10 years of experience doing so. 2) I got my first job in social media in 2011 and was the Chairwoman of the Board for the National Institute for Social Media for several years, and I still don't know everything there is about social media marketing. No one does. It changes too quickly. Your next social hire should have grit and personality, both of which are far more valuable than algorithm knowledge. I’ve come across a few influencer marketing roles on LinkedIn lately and felt a little frustrated at the lack of understanding from brand and agencies hiring. So here’s my PSA 😂 1️⃣ A Social Media Manager is a completely different full time role, if you’re combining the two you won’t get the desired results in both! 2️⃣ Please stop including “proven list of influencers you have relationships with” in your job description. Anyone with a professional email address and deal on the table can build a relationship with an influencer. Ironically the role is not about who you know, it’s how strong your knowledge of the market is and identifying influencers that can provide results for any brand. 3️⃣ Stop hiring inexperienced executives to soley lead your influencer marketing team and giving them unrealistic KPIs.
