I'm seeing an increasing number of posts on Linked In addressing the recent rise in AI-augmented hiring processes that have been adopted by a number of large firms & institutions. Whilst this is the direction of travel in a world whereby AI is fast-becoming commonplace, we still believe here at Cooper Recruitment that first-and-foremost, meaningful human interaction is at the heart of an effective recruitment experience and still the most effective way at building trust between candidate & hiring team. That is why all of our clients get a dedicated scoping call from our team prior to working on their vacancies. It is why all of our candidates are regularly liaised with throughout the pre-screening and interview process by a talent acquisition specialist. And why appropriate follow-ups including telephone calls are made to offer feedback. If you get the candidate experience right in a sector whereby the demands of hiring processes are increasingly ensuring that recruiters fall short, you will stand out! That being said, AI is great if you get the job. But if you're wondering why so many job seekers' are totally disillusioned by the process of finding a new job, maybe it's that automated CV rejection, or that one-way 'chat' to a robot at interview? Put the candidate experience at the heart of what you do and contact me to discuss how we can support you! ⬇ 📲 07398700330 📩 [email protected]

We've just closed a recruitment round for a role at Nesta. We ask people to answer some competency-based questions that we score blind before inviting people to interview. It's been fascinating seeing how AI gets used in this process, so I wanted to share some thoughts. 1. the best answers used AI generated responses to provide a structure, but were heavily edited to be much, much more specific to the role and the context of the role (i.e. Nesta, Wales). The worst ones were just cut and paste. 2. we thought we'd get a lot of AI responses, so guess what... we ran ALL our questions through some popular platforms before finalising them. And then we tweaked them to make sure there was something that AI was bad at - specificity. Yep - recruiters have access to AI as well. 3. when we scored, we had an example AI response open next to the candidates' answer. It was amazing how often they matched. And they matched in lots of different ways - content, structure and most importantly - tone of voice. People don't usually start sentences with words like "moreover...". It helped us see who'd used it well and who'd used it to fill in the box. I don't think using AI to apply for jobs is a bad thing. In some cases, it probably helped people give better answers. But it can't do the specific work for you - and it's you we want to hear from.
