The Fugro Blue Essence® enhances safety and environmental performance by operating fully remotely with unrestricted service, supporting marine projects further offshore. Its design and capabilities, including the highest level of approval for workboats (Category 0), underscore its readiness for challenging maritime environments, thereby enhancing safety and reducing environmental impact.
📜 SEA-KIT International X-Class USV receives Lloyd's Register Unmanned Marine Systems (UMS) certificate 🎯 Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) designer and builder, SEA-KIT International’s latest 12 meter SEA-KIT X-Class USV, Fugro Blue Essence®, has been recently awarded Lloyd's Register UMS certification, marking the company’s 5th certificate and the first Lloyd's Register UMS certificate for a Category 0 certified vessel. 🎤 Matthew Palmer, CEng IMechE, Lloyd's Register Global Naval Business Lead – Submarines and Uncrewed Systems commented: “Lloyd's Register is delighted to award UMS certification to this SEA-KIT International X-Class Fugro Blue Essence®. The USV’s state-of-the-art design and capabilities demonstrate the future of marine technology, and this certification underscores the vessel's readiness for remote operation in challenging maritime environments.” Category 0 approval, the highest level of approval for workboats, was awarded to the vessel by the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency in January 2024. It is now the largest Cat 0 certified USV to operate fully remotely and with unrestricted service to support marine projects further offshore while enhancing safety and environmental performance. 🎤 Doug Graham, SEA-KIT International MD, said: “We continue to push boundaries with the design and construction of our USVs. Certification is essential for the industry to provide a safety assurance framework and it is testament to the team’s hard work that SEA-KIT International now holds the most UMS certificates awarded to any company. We will strive to maintain this leadership stance and our long-standing relationship with Lloyd's Register, so that we can continue to support the sector in achieving ambitious net zero targets.” SEA-KIT International USVs are at work on commercial projects around the world. The company has several vessels in build and on order, including the next-generation, 18 metre, SEA-KIT XL-Class USV, which will also be certified against Lloyd's Register’s UMS Code. The vessel is currently preparing to start sea trials in Ipswich, Essex. 📃📷 Source: SEA-KIT International #fugro #seakit #blueessense #lr #lloyrdregister #cerftification #umscode #workboat #marineautonomy #maritimeautonomy #massworldnews

Tom's Tips for ROV Pilots and Technicians When performing close-up inspections in turbid water, it may be impossible to see only a few centimeters, if even that far! But with a sonar and a clear water lens, you will be able to navigate to the inspection site and get the image clarity required for a successful mission. A clear water lens can be as simple as a sealed plastic bag filled with water and strapped to the front of the ROV, like the one in this image. The top half of the video image shows the scene just before the bag made contact and the lower half, one second later after contact. Crude, but effective... #ROV #VideoRay

Did you know? The letter "H" on a helipad stands for Helicopter Landing Area (HLA). It's a universal symbol that indicates a safe area for helicopters to take off and land. The "H" is intended to guide pilots as they approach and land. It's easily visible from a distance of several miles, making navigation for pilots simple. On offshore helidecks, the "H" is often encircled, providing a clear visual boundary for pilots as they approach over open water. On onshore helipads, the "H" is typically accompanied by a cross, serving as an additional visual cue for pilots navigating more varied landscapes. The "H" may also have been intentionally aligned to designate magnetic or true north #H #Helicopter #Helidecks #Helipads https://catobollc.com/

Spanish ship manufacturer Astilleros Gondan has embarked on the construction of the first-ever unmanned offshore inspection vessel for USV A/S, a pioneering Norwegian partnership at the forefront of this innovative field. Collaborating last year, DeepOcean, Solstad Offshore, and Østensjø Rederi initiated the development of a unique unmanned offshore vessel poised to transform subsea inspections in the North Sea. This groundbreaking vessel, measuring an impressive 78 feet in length and constructed from steel, features a covered rear deck and a hull design specifically optimized for stability in challenging weather conditions, as attested by project partner Solstad. Sporting a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system and an extended fuel capacity that allows for up to 30 days of continuous operation at sea, the vessel will be equipped with a work-class Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) capable of diving to depths of 1,500 meters - a remarkable capability for a vessel of its dimensions. Scheduled for deployment by 2025, the vessel will be controlled remotely from an onshore operations center, offering a cost-effective, eco-friendly, and safer alternative to traditional manned offshore operations. In a similar vein, Ocean Infinity, a leading competitor in the unmanned inspection and survey sector, is introducing "lean-crewed" vessels this year, albeit on a larger scale with dimensions reaching approximately 255 feet in length. This move signifies the changing landscape of unmanned maritime operations, highlighting the industry's shift towards advanced technology and automation in enhancing efficiency and safety at sea. #MarinerNews #Offshore #MaritimeIndustry #MaritimeUpdates #ShippingNews
