South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT) is taking bold steps towards sustainability by exploring green hydrogen as an alternative fuel for terminal equipment. Greenstat is proud to partner with SAGT in this transition to net zero. SAGT plans to electrify 30 out of its 80 Prime Mover Trucks and install rooftop solar to generate around 7% of its current electricity usage. Despite a 7% increase in container volumes for 2023/24, SAGT managed to reduce its GHG intensity (kgCO2eq/box move) by 0.1%. To further progress towards net zero, SAGT will convert six more RTGs to hybrid technology. SAGT's fifth sustainability report for 2023/24, themed “Collaborating for Tomorrow,” highlights its commitment to sustainability and future-focused initiatives. As part of this commitment, SAGT will invest in electrification and renewable energy to power segments of its operations. In line with the International Maritime Organisation's (IMO) mandate to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, SAGT is determined to reach this goal ahead of schedule. SAGT is also implementing measures to reduce water usage, upgrading its Sewer Treatment Plant (STP) for reuse of treated effluent, and collaborating with Maersk Line to reuse desalinated water from vessels, cutting down natural water withdrawal by approximately 2%. To enhance efficiency and sustainability, SAGT is digitalizing and automating processes, with phase one of a digital Safety Management System (SMS) already launched and full rollout expected by mid-2024.
