‘My Voyage of Discovery – Act 1’
As I transition out of Reckitt and take time to consider what’s next for me, I thought I’d share my own ‘Voyage of Discovery’ and the insights I gain along the way in case they might be helpful for others walking the same path.
So, the big question is what do I want the next chapter to look like? and the honest answer is I really don’t know, yet!! ❓
‘Do the things I love to do with the people I love working with’ is my new mantra and that’s a great ambition but what does that look like? And do I try to find it within another organisation or do I set up on my own HR Consulting business focussed on Leadership Development, Culture change in it’s broadest sense and Coaching/Mentoring? 🙄
So here is my first THANK YOU and that goes to every one of you who sent me a lovely message on hearing that I was leaving Reckitt. To say I was overwhelmed with the generosity of the messages is an understatement, and I really can’t thank you enough as these messages gave me the confidence to explore the option of starting up on my own. 🙏
INSIGHT #1: Tell people more often when you think they are having a great impact rather than waiting until they are leaving, it really does make a huge difference. 👍
Take some time out to ‘chill’ and ‘decompress’ from Reckitt was advice I received from many which I felt was sound advice and I committed to myself that I wouldn’t make any firm decisions until early in the new year. So how did that work out? ❓
After 3 days of chilling out I was done with that and on day 4 when I was feeling restless, a role popped up on my linked In feed that looked like it was made for me, so here was my first test. I’m pleased to say that with great effort I managed to stop myself from applying. Now I knew I was serious about exploring the option to do something on my own. Game on!! 🎯
Here is where my next set of THANK YOU’s come in. To give me a sense of purpose & keep me motivated, on day 4 I reached out to 10 contacts, most of whom had set up their own HR consulting businesses and asked them if they would be prepared to have a call. Once again, I was blown away, within the same day, everyone had responded and dates were in the calendar. I understand that time is money when you’re running your own business so I can’t thank each of you enough. 🙏
It felt so great to be connecting with everyone, having the time to have that meaningful connection really lifted my spirits and put a smile on my face. 😉
Insight #2: Take the time to really connect with people you enjoy talking to even when there may not be an obvious reason to do so. It’s so good for the soul. 😍
As I write, I am enjoying some real down time in Tulum, Mexico which is giving me the space and time to reflect on the words of wisdom received from my friends and colleagues who so graciously gave their time to speak with me. I’ll be back to share with you the key take outs shortly. 😎
Take care everyone,
Mandy
