A Year in Reflection: Leadership, Free Speech, and the Quest for Balance As we stand at the threshold of a new year, it's a fitting moment to reflect on the tapestry of events and ideas that have shaped our world recently. This year has been a testament to the shifting paradigms of leadership and the ever-evolving discourse of freedom of speech. The political realm, once a beacon of charismatic and transformational leadership, seems to have entered a new phase. The inspirational figures of the past, like Angela Merkel, Barack Obama, and Nelson Mandela, set a standard that today's political landscape struggles to match. There’s a palpable shift from service-oriented charisma to a focus on career advancement, leaving many to wonder about the future of inspiring political leadership. Simultaneously, the void left by traditional politics seems to be filled by leaders in the technology sphere. Figures like Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and Mackenzie Scott are redefining leadership, not just through their business acumen but through their deep convictions. From philanthropy to pushing the bounds of human capability, their visions extend beyond mere technological innovation to touch the lives of people across the globe. Their commitment is almost akin to a fervent belief, stirring a sense of possibility and aspiration. This year has also been pivotal in understanding the complexities of freedom of speech. In an age where every opinion can find its platform, the boundaries of this freedom are constantly tested. The paradox lies in its double-edged nature – while it allows for diversity in thought and opinion, it also opens doors to divisive rhetoric, often used by politicians to rally support. This observation leads us to ponder the limits of free speech and our responsibilities in a democratic society. As we bid farewell to this year, let's carry with us the lessons learned and the questions raised. The balance between free speech and respectful discourse, the evolving nature of leadership, and the role of each individual in shaping a positive future are themes that will continue to be relevant as we step into another year. I invite you to share your reflections on these topics. How have your views on leadership, freedom of speech, and our societal responsibilities evolved this year? #YearInReview #LeadershipEvolution #FreedomOfSpeech #ReflectiveDialogue

Helping leaders committed to a free and prosperous future scale their businesses to scale their impact through: angel/venture investing, revenue operations, talent, events, connections, and more
This year, the American Enterprise Institute gave their Irving Kristol Award to Paul Gigot, Editorial Page Editor and Vice President of the The Wall Street Journal. I’ve been a long-time reader of WSJ, and it was refreshing to hear Paul reiterate that the motto of the publication is: “Free People, Free Markets”. I think Paul has done a great job as Editorial Page Editor, to present a diversity of voices, while consistently advocating for those principles. And I am a big fan of AEI, that I worked with informally for years, and got to join earlier this year in their Young Leaders program. In his acceptance speech, Paul spoke in particular about the challenges that the US and the world is facing today, which I do not think needs explanation. More importantly, he said there are two questions to ask: How did we get here? And what are we going to do about it? His answer to the former: We have forgotten the lessons of history. The dangers that humanity always faces. Even when things seem to be getting better. His answer to the latter: We need to seek unity. The divisions of America are not strengthening us. They are weakening us. And it will require an appeal to our common ideals to do so. I think he is right, and that is why I am committed to Liberty Ventures building the ecosystem of values-aligned business leaders. Because business brings people together to serve and support one another. PS. This was a last minute event. Good thing I bring a tuxedo with me on trips. Remember, life is black tie optional!

Executive Vice President @Ciellos | Dot Connector in the Microsoft Ecosystem | Helping Companies Maximize Their Partnership with Microsoft | Community & Relationship Builder
* Advocating Doug Burgum for President * Dear LinkedIn Network, I've never been an active political advocate, but today, I'm compelled to share my personal experiences with a remarkable leader who has left a lasting impression on me. Like many of thousands of Microsoft employees and partners of Microsoft and Great Plains I've had the privilege of working alongside Doug Burgum over the years, and here's why I believe he deserves your consideration for the highest office in the land. First and foremost, Doug's ability to connect with people is unparalleled. I'll never forget the time when after many years had passed he remembered my wife at the time name, after briefly meeting her. This small gesture speaks volumes about his genuine interest in the people he encounters. It's a quality that extends beyond the surface and into his leadership style. One particular night stands out in my memory. We found ourselves working tirelessly until 1 AM in the morning, alongside colleagues, preparing for the 2001 AICPA technology conference in which Doug was keynoting. This dedication to his responsibilities and his unwavering work ethic was truly inspiring. What sets Doug apart, in my eyes, is his knack for surrounding himself with exceptional individuals. He understands the importance of teamwork and collaboration, consistently assembling teams that drive results. He isn't just a leader; he's a dynamic leader who empowers those around him to excel. Moreover, Doug Burgum embodies qualities that our nation desperately needs in its leadership. He is a man of unwavering integrity, unshakeable character, and undeniable substance. These traits are not just words; they are the principles that guide his actions and decision-making. In recent times, I've paid close attention to the Republican debates, and after thoughtful consideration, I firmly believe that Doug Burgum is the leader our country needs. His vision, dedication, and ability to bring people together are precisely what we require in these challenging times. So, let's unite behind a leader who has shown us through his actions that he is not just ready but eminently qualified to lead our great nation forward. Let's support Doug Burgum for President! #DougBurgumForPresident #Leadership #Integrity #Character #UnitedStates #2024Election
