🎉 Exciting News! 🎉 2024 is the year of HIV Prevention! Let's join hands and spread awareness about this important cause. Together, we can make a difference and create a world free from the fear of HIV. Here are some simple steps we can take to prevent HIV: 1⃣ Get educated: Knowledge is power! Learn about HIV transmission, prevention methods, and the importance of regular testing. 2⃣ Use protection: Always practice safe sex by using condoms consistently and correctly. Let's prioritize our sexual health and well-being. 3⃣ Get tested: Regular HIV testing is key to early detection and prevention. It's better to know your status and take action if needed. 4⃣ PrEP and PEP: If you are at high risk of contracting HIV, talk to your healthcare provider about pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). These are medications that can help prevent HIV transmission. 5⃣ Promote inclusivity: Let's create an environment of acceptance and support for individuals living with HIV. Stigma only perpetuates the spread of the virus. Remember, HIV prevention is a collective effort! Tag a friend and let's commit to making 2024 a year of progress, awareness, and change. Established in 1995, National HIV Testing Day serves as a pivotal reminder for individuals to prioritize their health by undergoing HIV testing, gaining awareness of their HIV status, and promptly accessing necessary care and treatment. HIV testing, including self-testing, empowers individuals to take proactive measures to safeguard their well-being. Those who receive a negative test result can use various HIV prevention tools, including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), condoms, and comprehensive sexual health services such as vaccinations and testing for sexually transmitted infections. Those who receive a positive test result may be instructed by their healthcare provider to start HIV treatment (antiretroviral therapy, or ART) for optimal health outcomes. To reach the UNAIDS goal of 95% of people knowing their #HIV status by 2030, the global community must improve access to HIV testing for all, especially members of key populations that are disproportionately affected by HIV. Learn more about barriers, facilitators, and strategies to enhance uptake of HIV self-testing among men who have sex with men in this recently published article co-authored by JSI’s Donald Udah: https://lnkd.in/eTQV-gYq #PutPeopleFirst #HIVtesting #HIVprevention #KeyPopulations

My number of the week is 934 - this is the number of new HIV cases identified in an 'opt-out' testing trial in England. The trial will now expand to 11 hospitals in the West Midlands, aiming to catch undiagnosed HIV cases early. This significant figure highlights the potential of the testing strategy. Not only does this move bring us closer to proactive health management and early interventions, but it's also a significant stride in reducing the stigma associated with HIV testing. A notable healthcare innovation that can save lives and reduce the stigma related to HIV. #HealthcareInnovation #EndHIVStigma #EarlyDetection

📊 New MMWR data suggest that distributing HIV self-tests by mail is an effective way to reach those who have never been tested or are not testing as often as recommended. 🌍📬 HIV testing is vital for prevention and treatment, leading to a 12% drop in infections from 2018 to 2022. However, access disparities remain. To address this, the CDC-funded Emory University and its partners, Building Healthy Online Communities (BHOC), OraSure Technologies, Signal Group, and NASTAD, launched the Together TakeMeHome (#TTMH) program, distributing 443,813 HIV self-tests by mail over the past year. Targeting key groups disproportionately affected by HIV, TTMH reached 219,360 individuals, with 68% from priority audiences, 24% who had never tested before, and 25% who hadn’t tested in the past year. This initiative highlights the effectiveness of mail-based self-testing. Read the full MMWR report here: https://lnkd.in/gFkZvhkn #NHTD #HIVTesting #PublicHealth

The dynamic of an ageing population of people living with HIV is not unique to South Africa, as recently outlined in this article in the journal The Lancet Global Health, but the size of our HIV epidemic means the scale of the effect here is substantial. According to estimates from Thembisa, the leading mathematical model of HIV in South Africa, there are currently around 1.7 million people aged 50 and older who are living with HIV in the country. This number is projected to rise rapidly in the coming years as people living with HIV who are now in their forties get older. https://lnkd.in/eesw3Eyd #africa #healtj #healthcare #medicines #vaccines #publichealth #hiv

𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗜𝗩 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 I'm excited to share that I recently completed a learning module on "Ask an Expert: HIV in Primary Care"! This program has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to better manage HIV-positive patients within my general practice setting. Here's what I've gained: Confident HIV Patient Management:I'm now more prepared to provide comprehensive care for patients living with HIV, including monitoring their health, managing medications, and offering support. Strategic HIV Testing: I can effectively determine when to recommend HIV testing for patients based on risk factors and current guidelines. Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Expertise: I understand the appropriate use of PEP to prevent HIV infection after a potential exposure. Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Guidance: I'm able to advise patients on the benefits and considerations of PrEP as a preventative measure for HIV. This newfound knowledge allows me to offer a wider range of services to my patients and contribute more effectively to the fight against HIV. #HIV #PrimaryCare #PublicHealth #LearningAndDevelopment https://lnkd.in/gFNSkGjH

Effectiveness of Using Additional HIV Self-Test Kits as an Incentive to Increase HIV Testing Within Assisted Partner Services Study: Effectiveness of Additional HIV Self-Test Kits as an Incentive to Increase HIV Testing Key Findings: In a study conducted in Western Kenya, offering a second HIV self-test (HIVST) as an incentive within assisted partner services did not significantly impact HIV testing rates or first-time testing. However, those who opted for the second test reported that it incentivized them to test. Practical Implications: Despite no significant overall increase in testing rates, a substantial proportion of partners who received a second HIVST reported that it encouraged them to get tested. This insight can inform future strategies to promote HIV testing and improve access to testing services. Value: Understanding the impact of incentives on HIV testing behavior can help tailor interventions to better support and encourage individuals to undergo HIV testing, ultimately contributing to HIV prevention and care efforts. https://lnkd.in/g4ZWDqjj #ClinicalTrials #AIinHealthcare #MedicalAI #HealthTech #DigitalHealth #PatientCareAI #AIResearch #MedicalInnovation #BioTech #AIforGood #HealthcareData #AIinMedicine #PharmaAI #ClinicalData #HealthAI #AIHealthSolutions #PrecisionMedicine #AIandHealth #ClinicalAnalytics #AIDiagnostics
