Check out some photos from our recent Pride Celebration & Intern Welcome! At the event, we had the pleasure of hearing from Tom Clark, owner of Supergay Spirits, a local LGBTQIA owned and operated business, on his perspective as a small business owner. Thank you to Tom for joining us and to our partner New Stand for another great event. #PrideMonth #TeamPretium

When our entire team is aligned, YOU, our client, WIN! During periods of company self promotion, like Pride Month, a lot of companies put on a show of support. For my LGBTQA family and community, this be perceived anywhere from supportive to performative. The bottom line is companies are beholden to their bottom line. Support of a cause, from Pride to Climate Change, is often in service of a desirable market. Well, as my son recently told me, with respect to Pride month "If i know you’re cool, i know you’re cool. y'know?" #wisewords A similar reductive and cynical narrative surrounds corporate values. If you know me and you've talked to me about Eight Bit Studios, you know that we have corporate values and that we believe in them and try to live by them. There are a few simple truths to our values 1. We shout out our values consistantly. 2. We structure our hiring practices around our values. We find that hiring people who believe what we believe is a helluva lot easier than convincing people to believe what we believe.--it's nearly impossible. And guess what, when the entire team is aligned, YOU WIN! The work we do tor you is that much better and free of friction. So, without further ado, here they are again!

Content Strategist & LinkedIn Mentor to Amplify Your Online Presence & Attract More Clients ✨ Content Marketing I Strategy I Website Copywriting I Business Writing I Training I Mentoring I AI Curious
Hey, do you know about Galentine's day? When you're a small business owner like me, the biggest up-level you can do is surround yourself with women who inspire, challenge and support you. Which was one of the reasons I started Dockside Business Circle last year. The anti-Valentine peeps have created a day to celebrate the incredible women in our lives. I googled how it came about, and here's what I found out. Coined by the hilarious Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation (who knew??), it's Feb 13 the day before Valentine's Day. It's all about ladies celebrating ladies - no romance needed, just pure, unadulterated friendship and empowerment. But what does this have to with business I hear you ask? Well, not a hell of a lot, but it does have to do with connection - and connection is one of my biggest values in business. So for me, celebrating something like Galentine's in business does a few things. 1. I can celebrate all the glorious women in my life who prefer to work behind the scenes 2. It strengthens my bond and community spirit 3. Gives a chance to showcase awesome businesswomen doing great things. 4. Makes me feel like I'm giving back to all the awesome people who have supported me along the way. Do you recognise Galentines' Day? Or think it's another 'commercialised' day? Posting early so you have a chance to organise your content or do something fun for the women who have supported you. P.S. Got questions or need a sprinkle of marketing goodness in your life? Don’t be a stranger—drop me an email! [email protected] I help with content & marketing strategy, Google Friendly SEO Copy, LinkedIn mentoring, and more.

Dear brands, We're days away from the beginning of Pride month, and my feed is already being rainbow-washed 🌈 👉 Rainbow marketing across all socials. 👉 Every bit of corporate merchandise you can imagine in a (you guessed it) rainbow edition. 👉 Special discounts for Pride month. 👉 New rainbow logos for profile pictures. And though to some it may seem like a nice signal, I need you to know that actions speak louder than logos. So before you post that rainbow-hued pic, please ask yourself: 👉 Are your marketing campaigns inclusive? 👉 Have you got the right policies and support in place for your LGBTQIA staff? 👉 Are you amplifying LGBTQIA voices? 👉 Are you using inclusive language and representation? 👉 Are you putting your money where your mouth is? 👉 Are you staying in the know on LGBTQIA issues? 👉 Are you really trying to uplift the community or boost Q2 sales? 👉 Are you hiring at all levels from the LGBTQIA community? If the answer to any of the above is no, it might be worth starting there. Allyship doesn't start on June 1st and end on the 30th. Yours sincerely, A member of the LGBTQIA community who knows you can do better.

"Brands cannot get away from delving into issues of some kind, social issues, political issues, because they have to be able to navigate the conversations around the stuff that people care about." Well said by Collage Group's Senior Director of Cultural Insights, Jack Mackinnon, M.Ed.! Check out some of the work we're doing at Collage Group to learn more about how brands can (and should) get involved in the issues that matter to people.

Award-Winning Founder and CEO of Deya, Dramatherapist, Theatre and Film Director who talks about equity in the creative industries
Black creatives’ needs are DIFFERENT. 📣 Allow me to explain. I always felt like the land where I was born was not designed for someone like me to thrive. I didn't fully understand the weight of this until I naively entered the working world in my early 20’s. Long story short, office culture was not my calling. After years of shrinking and code-switching whilst being undervalued and misunderstood, I quit my advertising career to pursue a career as a creative. And I'm not alone in this experience. As I entered freelance life and got to speak to other Black creatives, I was shocked to find out that so many of us felt like this. Here’s some of the problems we found surveying Black creative talent: -Black people are underrepresented in creative industries at all levels, particularly at senior levels -Challenges that are specific to Black people are not being met due to generic groupings such as BAME -Creative careers are inaccessible due to nepotism and affordability. Fast forward a few years, I now run Deya, a platform connecting Black creative talent with opportunities, community, events and content. We’re loading something super special and can’t wait to share it with you all. I’m passionate about leveraging tech to make a difference in the creative industries and beyond that increasing diversity and access to opportunity. It’s my “why” but much more than that it’s who I am as a person. So, allow me to reintroduce myself. Mic drop 🎤 #womenintech #blackwomenintech #blackcreatives #diversityandinclusion

The 1st step in creating an inclusive space is to come with an open mind, and the willingness to get comfortable being uncomfortable. If not on LinkedIn, what are you doing as a BIPOC community member to have your voice heard? For those of non BIPOC communities, what are you actively doing to ensure your BIPOC friends feel comfortable sharing their unpopular opinions?
To my people of color Where are you on LinkedIn? What can I do to help increase diversity on LinkedIn? What resources do you need? How do we make LinkedIn a more inclusive and diverse place so that there is equal representation at "the table"?
