It is Pride Month, and I am thankful to work at a company where we keep the conversation going not only in June but all year long. 🏳️🌈 In 2024, Showpad's Pride ERG will host a special session for our book club, Pride & Prose. 📚 This time, we're diving into James Baldwin's masterpiece, 𝘎𝘪𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘪'𝘴 𝘙𝘰𝘰𝘮. It was the most voted book from an internal poll of our Employee Resource Group. This will be the second meeting of our book club, and we will combine it with our monthly activity, 🌈 Rainbow Brews & Chats, a safe and inclusive space where we discuss LGBTQ -related topics based on short videos. It is a place to ask questions, learn, and gather the tools to become better advocates, fostering a sense of belonging and support. If your company doesn’t host LGBTQ initiatives, be the one who changes it. And yes, I am looking especially at you, fellow Executive Assistants. DEIB is not just a buzzword. It is about giving voice to those who don’t always get the chance to speak—a lot like us, but unfortunately, in many ways, even harder. By leveraging our EQ, ability to connect people, and interpersonal skills, we can drive meaningful change within our organizations. Like you, I live in Florida, and between the “Don’t Say Gay” fiasco and the “Stop WOKE Act ” shenanigans in our state alone, I’m feeling frustrated and lost; like we’re going backward. I try to promote equity both in our community as well as in my workplace (I’m one of the heads of our Employee Resource Group). What do you suggest I can do to keep up my spirits and continue the fight, and not get frustrated and give up? ~ Annoyed Advocate My 2¢ : This reflects my frustration and the negative emotions I've felt due to legislative attacks on the LGBTQ community, which have been compounded by the pandemic, economic concerns, and global conflicts. Drawing from my expertise in change management and resilience, I have a lot of insight into the importance of adapting to change and overcoming adversity. There are three key resilience strategies: maintaining a positive outlook, nurturing a healthy self-concept, and effectively handling ambiguity. I encourage taking action, however small, to make a positive impact. I want to remind everyone that you're not alone in your struggles. I’ve been on social most of my professional life, but as I advance in my career, I’m getting a little concerned about my “digital presence” out there. I was once a silly 20-something and did some dumb stuff. I’ve since deleted many of those pics, but it’s just got me thinking about how to balance who I am on social with my business self. Any ideas how to be authentic in the age of social? ~ Social Scale Balancer My 2¢ : Getting the hang of managing your digital brand authentically is super important, especially for LGBTQ professionals. It's all about finding that sweet spot between what's personal and what's professional on social media, to shape an image that shines a positive light on the LGBTQ community. I've heard many companies, especially foreign ones, talk about inclusivity. But is their inclusivity truly inclusive? 🤔 I've seen many talented Black individuals struggle to get jobs, especially with foreign companies. Often, when applying for remote jobs, you're asked about your location. If you mention a predominantly Black country, there's a 90% chance your application gets filtered out and never even reaches the company. It usually takes a special connection or a lot of luck to get noticed. 🤦🏽♀️ Where is the inclusivity in that? If we can fight for LGBTQ rights, why can't we also ensure that talented people get hired regardless of their race? We need to address this bias. I'm all for inclusivity, but let's make sure it applies to everyone. #inclusion #inclusivity

Coming out is an intensely personal experience. It's a rollercoaster of emotions, a journey into the unknown, and a leap of faith. It's about embracing who you truly are and finding the strength to share that truth with the world. It's about love, understanding, and acceptance - values that should resonate deeply within all of us. I celebrate the courage, strength, and authenticity of all LGBTQ individuals who, like me, took that pivotal step to reveal their true selves to the world. Your stories, your journeys, they are all inspiring. To my fellow friends who have come out, your bravery is beyond inspiring, and your visibility is changing the world. Your stories have the incredible power to create acceptance, break down stereotypes, and pave the way for others to live authentically. To those who are still contemplating or waiting for the right moment to come out, I want you to know that you are loved and supported. Your journey is valid, and you should take all the time you need. There's no blueprint or timeline for coming out; your well-being should always be the top priority. To all the allies out there, your unwavering support and commitment to your own DEI education plays a crucial role in making the world a safer and more accepting place for LGBTQ individuals. Let's remember that coming out is not a one-time event but an ongoing process. It's about living authentically, day by day, and continuing to educate and inspire those around us.
