Today we celebrate our team. 6 months ago we weren't sure we'd have a business.
One thing we learned in the process.
🤗 Empathy wins the day, every time.
And it starts with high quality feedback loops.
We hit the reset button in June 2023 from fundraising in a rough environment to working with our partners to reach sustainable profitable growth. The cuts were deep and everyone staying and leaving felt the pain. It sucked. It was risky. It kick started a different pathway.
In many scenarios like this, people lose their cool, point the finger, and get aggressive. Instead, we got back to basics. We got together each morning on a standup and solved what was next to solve, together. Then reviewed at roundtables fortnightly.
Standups and roundtables aren't new. But this time, instead of a simple update, each member shared their observations and weekly their confidence. Then rallied around the biggest challenge and the individual facing it.
The team channeled that energy into empathy.
Team morale went up. Silos dissolved. Listening was documented. Progress was palpable. Profitability ensued.
High quality feedback loops. Until they weren't.
Daily and collective was good for fire fighting. Now the fires have settled, we are growing. Feedback loops take a different form. Empathy stays the same.
Now the challenge is to maintain this as we grow. A challenge we look forward to.
