#ASK That's the greatest lesson my father has taught me as far as I can remember. As we grow up, asking questions becomes more difficult due to fear of authority or embarrassment, but he has the habit of asking. My mom doesn't like it. "Why does he have to ask the same questions daily?" she keeps complaining. But I've learned that asking is an underrated skill that can yield great results. He has enquired if there are any discounts at shops, hospitals, restaurants, etc., and believe me, he gets one about half the time. Asking is not the same as pleading or requesting. Asking protects your #SelfEsteem because even if the request is denied, your morale doesn't faze. It's about seeking clarity or a desire to learn. The answers it gets you help you plan ahead. When I became a journalist, it became my job. Caveat: Questions can offend or enrage people. So, they will need to be asked with honesty and respect. So, if my father were to be your life coach, he would tell you that instead of sulking over missed opportunities, ask when you can get the next one, how you can prepare for it, and who can help you get there. I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Manager at Deloitte! Also, it would be both incredibly selfish and foolish to believe that your success is yours alone. Because the phase between two joyous occasions (read: #promotion), there are days that aren't great...days when self-doubt slithers in and self-worth takes a massive beating. That's when voices outside your head, faces in front of you, tell you to carry on. Those voices are of your parents who have little idea of what you do for a living, a sister who is busy taking care of a toddler, friends whose entire motivational speech is "tu sher hai" (you are a lion), a partner who easily understands what you don't say, colleagues who became family in a new city, coaches who found you, and mentors you found in the journey. Though I am not tagging you here, you know who you are. PS: I had to become a manager this year as it was getting tough for me to justify my receding hairline. Love, Pratyush
