These are difficult times for the PV industry in Europe: Competition against China’s overly expanded large volume producers is fierce, governments react slowly or are quarreling over approaches. Additionally, there are competing interests from different groups even within the PV industry (project developers vs component producers). All this may cast a dark shadow over the PV industry in Europe. However, there is one PV branch growing steadily and becoming increasingly more relevant: integrated photovoltaics. Project specific production and a market driven by reductions in CO2 emissions instead of lowest LCOE reduces the risk of a dependency on Chinese manufacturers. Find out more about one branch of integrated photovoltaics, at the PVinMotion (https://lnkd.in/ef-cvcHa), where people from science and industry meet to discuss the latest advancements in the field of vehicle integrated photovoltaics (VIPV). The deadline for early bird registration (January 31st) is approaching soon!

Director of the Institute of Power Engineering - National Research Institute (IEN-PIB/IPE-NRI), Professor
High-level policy conference of the EERA - The European Energy Research Alliance took place yesterday in Brussels. 📗 The report Energy Demand Reduction as part of the Clean Energy Transition in Europe: Research and Policy Strategies, which was co-authored by Instytut Energetyki - Instytut Badawczy, was officially presented. You can find the report here: https://lnkd.in/dUebZ--M while the recording of the panel is available here: https://lnkd.in/derJ6keF Instytut Energetyki - Instytut Badawczy joined EERA in 2009, and we continue to be part of Executive Committee (ExCo) since that time. Our research teams participate in joint programmes Energy Storage (ES), Energy Transition for Sustainable Society (E3S), Bioenergy (BIO), Smart Cities (SC), Smart Grids (SG), Fuel Cells and Hydrogen (FCH), and Energy Efficiency in Industrial Processes (EEIP).

🆕 The European Commission's EnTEC (Energy Transition Expertise Centre) just published the final version of the study on The potential of osmotic energy in the EU! 💡 The study concludes that, in its current state, #osmotic energy could provide 51TWh/year, which is enough to cover all the energy demand of Romania, Portugal, Hungary, Denmark, Ireland or Croatia for a whole year. 📈 However, this doesn't even take into account further scientific developments, like the improvement of membrane technologies or the use of hypersaline sources, such as brine, that could make osmotic even more performant! 👉 Our Members Sweetch Energy, SaltPower & REDstack BV contributed with their data & expertise so that the study could be as accurate as possible. 🤝 Thank you to the European Commission, Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI, Eric Lecomte & all the contributors for their commitment. Vice President of Transmission and Distribution Infrastructure at Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)
EPRI helps the power industry move forward through collaboration and research that identifies the latest innovations and best practices—and much of that work is being done at EPRI’s advanced laboratories. EPRI’s three state-of-the-art laboratories assist energy companies in a way that few places can. In my new article, I write about the impressive work being done at our labs and give just a few examples of the many incredible achievements that have resulted from our work. For instance, EPRI recently tested whether advanced conductors known as high temperature, low sag (HTLS) could offer the same high performance over an extended period of time with higher mechanical loads. In our advanced conductor testing facility, EPRI researchers were able to simulate 40 years of aging in just 18 months to show their durability and long-lasting performance. As a result, energy companies could confidently invest in the new technology. Read the full article to learn more:

Our department works on over 200 research projects with academic and industry partners worldwide. One of the projects that concluded this year is ReliaBlade. The project has developed game-changing digital twin technology for wind turbine blades, focused on tracking damages and predicting future conditions. "We created a vision for a digital twin of wind turbine blades and made the first drawing", says Kim Branner, Project manager of ReliaBlade, "Having this vision that in the future digital twins of wind turbine blades will be something that comes along with the physical blade, so the digital twin of the blade follows what happens to the physical blade during its lifetime; it is sort of becoming a movement that more people want to join in other countries." Get the highlights and impacts of the project in this in-depth video interview featuring Kim Branner, Andreas Reuter, Director of Fraunhofer-Institut für Windenergiesysteme, and Morten Jeppesen, Head of Department at DTU Wind and Energy Systems.
