Welcome to Tony’s Trade Talk, I will be discussing different tools/equipment and PPE that are commonly used in the Construction Trades that could be of benefit. Today we are to talk about Flash Flooding June is Flood Awareness Month. If a flash flood warning is issued for your area: • Drive only if absolutely necessary. Do not attempt to drive through a flooded road. The depth of the water is not always obvious. The roadbed may be washed out under the water, and you could be stranded or trapped. • Never drive around a barricade. Be especially cautious at night. • Stay off bridges that are over water. • Stop tailgating you should practice the three-second distance rule. • Don’t pull over, travel at the same speed, and only pull over after you have safely left the roadway and into a parking lot. • Wipers on, headlights on, hazard lights off. Using hazard lights while moving, can confuse other drivers and creates to many rooms for errors. • Look for downed power lines. • If you come upon a flowing stream where fast-moving water is above your ankles, turn around, don’t drown. Six inches of swift-moving water can knock you off your feet. • Children should never play around high water, storm drains, or viaducts. • Don’t use electricity in a home that’s flooded or leave it on if you’re evacuating. If water touches live electrical outlets, you could be electrocuted, or it could cause a devastating fire. • Have a weather emergency kit packed and ready to go ahead of time.

You might recall a BBC feature about a chap, Nick Lupton, who successfully built a flood wall around his home, effectively safeguarding it against the River Severn’s floods. This instance of triumph has sparked widespread interest, with many echoing the sentiment, “We need a flood wall around our home too.” Our clients, often driven by the “Build Back Better” initiative, are increasingly inquiring about such constructions, with insurers understandably wanting to rigorously scrutinise the plans for structural robustness. We’re going to delve into the permissions needed for the building of a flood wall, sectioned into three detailed scenarios. Our focus will be solely on the construction of these walls, setting aside other site-specific measures like drainage, for clarity and conciseness. https://lnkd.in/dzR7qKH5

𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗱, 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝟮! 🤪 I talked about the absurdity of flood testing when it succeeds, but what happens when it fails? 𝗬𝗼𝘂'𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗗𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗳 So, you've flooded your roof, and the water level dropped or, worse, it is leaking inside. Congratulations, you now have water infiltrating your roofing system and most likely your building. The damage is done, well played! 👏 𝗡𝗼𝘄, 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗸 🔍 Flood testing is supposed to help you figure out if there are leaks, but it won't pinpoint their exact location. You'll need to play detective and visually inspect your entire roof to try to find the leak(s). Good luck! 👍 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗢𝗻𝗲 – 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗨𝗻𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 💰🌍 You've managed to patch up some leaks, and it seems like you've got it under control. You're back to square one, and it's time to retest your waterproofing. With another flood test? If you don't pass the test again, it's not just a financial burden; Sustainability is key, and wasting water for an inefficient testing method might not be the most responsible solution. 🏠💦🚧 #Waterproofing #Sustainability #construction #ElectronicLeakDetection #maintenance

One of the main concerns for businesses after a flood event is getting operations up and running again, especially for essential services. As flood experts, we help businesses shorten the recovery time by preventing significant flood damages that can take days, weeks, or even months to fix. Naturally, time savings translate to cost savings. Flood panels like this one can prevent thousands of dollars in damages. What you see here are panels customized to protect an electrical box. If flood waters get into this vulnerable area, it can cause outages and expensive repairs or replacements. Even if the damage is minimal, we always consider the demand for repair and cleanup services after a flood, which can take a while depending on the severity of the flood and how many properties are impacted. Some businesses may not be able to book a service right away, necessitating a complete shutdown until it's safe to operate again. Something as simple as a flood protection box for electrical equipment or a small panel for an opening on the ground can make a world of difference.

💧Combat Flooding On-Site. Adverse weather can severely jeopardise the progress of construction. We have put together the key products you need in case you find your site underwater. Step 1: Clearing the water: Submersible Water Pump: Efficiently evacuates large volumes of floodwater. Remember, always ensure exterior water levels are below the interior before starting the pump. Wet Vacuum Cleaner: A robust, industrial-grade, twin-motor cleaner designed for clearing any remaining water. Step 2: Drying the premises: Pump Dehumidifier: Auto-purge up to 55L daily, sending it straight to a drain up to 12m away. No manual emptying! Floor & Carpet Dryer: Expedite drying of surfaces and freshly plastered walls. Heaters: Choose from diesel, electric, or infrared. Avoid LPG and gas, as they increase humidity indoors. Don't let heavy rainfall and flooding catch you off guard this winter.

For years, Clonmel faced relentless flooding severely impacting lives, commerce, and infrastructure. A flood defence scheme consisting of hard engineering defences to contain the flood water within the river channel and a removable wall was chosen as the most cost-effective and reliable way to manage the flood risk. To ensure that there would be no blockages on river outfalls during normal function and conversely, reliable and total exclusion of water ingress during flood conditions, the design team recognised rubber duckbill valves as the most reliable and maintenance-free drainage check valve. The importance of having a reliable non-return valve on the outfalls of this drainage scheme was illustrated during a flood event in February 2014. With warmer temperatures on the heels of snow, flooding may occur. A Flood Watch has been issued for Erie County, NY, from Thursday afternoon through Saturday morning. Here are some important safety reminders: - If flooding has affected your natural gas appliances (furnaces, hot water tanks, etc.), do NOT attempt to re-light pilot lights on that equipment. If the furnace or hot water tank controls were submerged, floodwater may have caused damage that could affect the safe operation of the equipment. A qualified contractor should be called to inspect the appliances. - While a basement is flooded, do NOT attempt to adjust any gas equipment or gas meters. - Do not turn on a gas valve that has been turned off by National Fuel or emergency personnel when flooding has occurred. Once the water has subsided, contact National Fuel at 1-800-365-3234, and we'll test and restore the service at no charge. - If you smell gas, leave fast! If a rotten-egg odor is present, leave the premises immediately without turning on or off any electrical appliances and call National Fuel's emergency line at 1-800-444-3130 from a different location. Representatives are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to receive emergency calls. Photo credit: US National Weather Service Buffalo, NY via Facebook
