LATAM Airlines is spreading its Peruvian wings. We look at the math behind the new 787-9 LIM-LHR service. Our latest newsletter takes a look at the history of the Lima to London market and at LATAM Peru's decision to serve the route using 25% of their available 787-9 flagships. No airline currently connects the two culinary capitals, separated by a measly 6,300 miles. A long, thin route tailor-made for the Rolls-Royce Trent-powered 787-9, the market's history is one of seasonality and one written almost entirely by British Airways. Identified by British Airways in 2016 as a seasonal leisure-ish market, a nonstop flight was added to nearby London Gatwick Airport - a compromise between the promotion of direct service and the relegation of Gatwick. It’s been a while since I’ve flown American Airlines. It used to be my favorite airline. I certainly was not disappointed in my flight to Texas last week. But it’s definitely evident that the entire travel industry is still in a recovery phase. Global tourism increases in 2023 following a growth of 60% in 2022, but it still remains below pre-pandemic levels. I think we need to give the industry some grace as they work hard to rebound. Kenya Airways and Taylor Swift - Same WhatsApp group When I think of Kenya Airways, I think of Taylor Swift. How now??? This is how. Taylor Swift had been completely written off following a dispute with Big Machine Records. (Long story). In spite of everything and other singer/songwriters struggling in the cutthroat musical world, Taylor made a comeback. She is now one of the highest-selling music artists of all time. She is now right up there with names like the Beatles and Michael Jackson. Not even Kanye stealing her thunder at the MTV Awards would dampen her light. (If you don't know about this, you must be living under a rock...LOL) Today, she is one of the top, if not the top, music artists. So what's my point? Just before Covid, KQ was on its knees. Many (me included) thought the airline would fold. But alas - we are now seeing comeback project after comeback project. I can't wait to see what the future holds. Oh and they say that the reason why Taylor Swift is such an amazing singer is because she turns her heart breaks into art.  I guess that's why they say to have a comeback, you have to have a setback Go, go KQ....
