The International Fistball Association just pulled off the most spectacular event that the sport has ever seen. In front of a packed house inside of the SAP Arena with about 8,000 people, fans from all over the world gathered to watch the world's best Fistball players duke it out for the ultimate prize: to become a world champion. I had the truly distinct pleasure of being the play-by-play commentator for the matches over the course of a grueling 8 days to 3 different TV Channels (SPORT1 GmbH, ORF, and an Indonesian sports channel) and worldwide on fistball.tv. All of these matches had the highest quality of production of any Fistball event thus far, and could go toe-to-toe with even the most established sports. It is a beautiful, tactical, and intense sport that requires a level of balance, strength, intelligence and determination on par with any other globally recognized sport. Despite how entertaining and interesting the sport is, it is still largely unknown, even in the backyard of the current World Champions Germany. Fistball is incredibly small in the USA, with about 65 members currently in the United States Fistball Association. The sport is entirely driven by the hard work of its volunteers and players, as is the case in many other federations that don't get sponsor money or government subsidies. It is such a shame that more people haven't gotten to experience the joy and the thrill of this amazing sport, and that is why we sacrifice so much to see it blossom into something we can talk about for generations to come. 🚨 Controversial Partnership Alert 🚨 In the wake of Borussia Dortmund’s recent loss to Madrid in the Champions League final, a new, equally challenging discussion emerges around the club's latest partnership. Dortmund’s decision to enter a three-year sponsorship agreement with weapons manufacturer Rheinmetall has left the fanbase and broader community both shocked and disappointed. As a club that has long stood for fans, community, and unity, Dortmund's choice to partner with a company involved in the arms industry seems to contradict their stated values of opposing "racism, antisemitism, homophobia, sexism, violence, and discrimination." 🖤💛 🔴 Why is this significant? Rheinmetall’s logo will now be prominent on BVB’s merchandise, advertising boards, and during press conferences. It is a first-of-its-kind deal for a Bundesliga club, and it raises serious concerns about the message being sent. On the Road: Autobahn Adventures and Team Unity in the 2009/2010 Season Amidst the highs of Fulham Football Club 2009/2010 season, one unforgettable chapter unfolded as we faced the challenges posed by the volcanic ash cloud disrupting air travel. This unexpected hurdle transformed what would have been a routine flight from London to Hamburg for the Europa League semi-final first leg against HSV into an adventurous road trip, etching itself into the memory of our team's journey. The autobahn outside Hamburg became an unexpected playground for the team. Stuck in a traffic jam caused by the sheer volume of vehicles rerouting due to grounded flights, players and staff found a unique way to pass the time – head tennis over the bus. The confined space turned into a makeshift court as footballs bounced between heads, creating an impromptu camaraderie that showcased the team's ability to turn adversity into an opportunity for connection. As the bus inched forward through the congested highway, laughter and competitive banter filled the air. This spontaneous game of football tennis, set against the backdrop of the autobahn, highlighted the resilience and adaptability of the team. It was a moment that transcended the traditional boundaries of a football squad, emphasising the bonds formed not just on the field but in the shared experiences that life on the road presented. The long drive from London to Hamburg became more than just a logistical challenge; it became a bonding experience that would be reminisced about for years to come. It was a testament to the team's ability to find joy in unexpected circumstances, reinforcing the importance of a positive team culture even in the face of adversity. In the end, the journey to Hamburg was not just about reaching a destination; it was about the stories intertwined into our shared experiences. The autobahn football tennis game became a symbol of our team's unity, turning a seemingly inconvenient situation into a fantastic memory that added another layer to the narrative of our remarkable season.
