Pony.ai Partners With GemVaxLink to Promote Autonomous Driving in South Korea Chinese self-driving startup Pony.ai has joined hands with South Korean tech firm GemVaxLink to advance autonomous driving technologies and applications in South Korea. Pony.ai and GemVaxLink will set up a joint venture in Seoul before the end of the year to co-build an autonomous driving service fleet in the South Korean capital city and explore more self-driving products in the country, the Guangzhou-based company announced yesterday, citing a deal the pair recently signed. Most cars sold in South Korea are equipped with Level 1 and L2 assisted driving technology, as L4 autonomous driving is not yet very popular in the country, Pony.ai noted. However, given its mature urban infrastructure and market environment, South Korea has good foundations for the development of self-driving technologies, the firm added. South Korea’s autonomous driving solutions market is expected to reach a size of CNY14 billion (USD1.9 billion) by 2028 from CNY7.7 billion (USD1.1 billion) this year, Pony.ai predicted. #autonomousvehicles #autonomousdriving #automotivetechnology

Global Business Development Executive | Sustainability Champion | Purpose Driven Leader | Growth Mindset - Opinions expressed are my Own
Joined my first European Business Council in Japan (EBC) event this past week for a meeting at TIER IV, a #mobility startup based in Shinagawa who is building an #autonomousvehicle platform from #japan, supporting the Autoware Foundation. There are many challenges yet to achieve the realization of true level 5 autonomous vehicles but it was fascinating to hear about Tier IV's journey to day. But honestly saying, having spent many years in China, I wonder if the Japanese auto sector can catch up to the capability and scale that the AV companies there are already achieving. For sure however, given the current degree of "not from China" the West is pursuing , there could well be room for a Japanease AV solution - especially if the major Japanese OEM's get on board with Tier IV. Worth watching this space IMO. #globalbusiness #japanbusinesss #sustainability leadership

Developing innovative L4 perception products for Continental - with a strong commitment to agile methods.
Working for #continental sometimes opens very exciting doors. One category is Tech Companies - during my Career I've seen a lot of exciting companies, from small startups at the very beginning to some really big tech players. This week there was the chance for a trip to the VisLab (an Ambarella Inc. company). And for me this was a very exciting visit: around 2010 - 2014 I wrote my theses and publications and there was one group whose publications I knew well: Alberto Broggi and his team at VisLab. What a pleasure to meet them in real life! We even had the chance to have a look the orange Piaggio Porter at the entrance, which is one of the four doing "The Vislab Intercontinental Autonomous Challenge" in which they did the trip from Parma to Shanghai - the best is it wasn't only autonomous, but they also have electric propulsion and a solar panel on the roof (besides a lot of sensors, of course). What would you guess when this has been? Not recently but in 2010, already 13 years ago, long time before autonomous vehicles have been a common topic in the media. Actually, the history of Vislab's autonomous vehicles even dates back to the 90's. So, you can imagine, there haven't only been a lot of stories about the Piaggio's and other autonomous vehicles, but we also had a lot of exciting discussions about the current challenges in AD and potential solutions. And if the orange Piaggio caught your attention and you want to lear more about the "VIAC", there's still some information on the internet to which I‘ll put a link below. #sustainability #sustainable #futuremobility #automotive #autonomousdriving #autonomousvehicle #autonomousvehicles #autonomousmobility #automateddriving #electric #electricvehicle #RalphGrewe
