The Society of Automotive Engineers created six Levels of Driving Automation. The first three levels, Levels 0, 1, and 2, describe cars with driver support features and a human driver present. Levels 3, 4, and 5 describe driverless cars with driving #automation. In Japan, the first automaker to offer Level 3 features was Honda in 2021. The driving system Sensing Elite was included in 100 units, each costing 11 million yen. Autonomous driving raises the question of who is to blame in the case of a road accident, and governments and experts are still working out the answer. 🚘 China has inaugurated its first highway-capable of L4 autonomous driving requires almost no human intervention. What does L4 autonomous driving entail?  ✅ L0: Entirely dependent on human manual driving.  ✅ L1: Features ACC adaptive cruise control to assist the driver in managing speed, but the driver must control the vehicle at all times.  ✅ L2: Allows the driver brief periods of rest, but they must be ready to take control of the vehicle at any moment. (Most mainstream vehicles currently operate at this level)  ✅ L3: The vehicle can autonomously drive from start to finish, although the driver must still monitor the process.  ✅ L4: The vehicle can independently make decisions throughout the driving process without driver intervention.  ✅ L5: Traditional driver's seat is unnecessary as the car can operate completely autonomously. Achieving safe autonomous driving requires not only intelligent vehicles but also roads that facilitate interconnectivity between all vehicles. This would allow all vehicles to sense each other, enabling, for example, a following car to be informed in advance when the leading car is preparing to slow down and exit a ramp, allowing it to slow down accordingly.  The widespread use of autonomous driving relies heavily on extensive road and network infrastructure provided by the government. Thought of the day "#Autonomous Driving in India" Indian drivers while driving need to use one more mechanism apart from brake , gear , accelerator & steering . That mechanism is very effective under certain circumstances and probably the only way to get the vehicle moving . It is very common practice in India to disobey the traffic light (generally by two wheeler drivers , but not necessarily only by two-wheeler drivers) especially in a traffic square where there is a crossing of main road with not so crowded by lane. The only way for a traffic coming from by lane is to wait for green signal and then get the vehicle across the main road by continuously honking the "#horn" . This way works always. Now imagine a case of an autonomous vehicle which has stopped in a by lane waiting for signal to become green, it will not be able to move an inch if it waits for traffic on main road to stop, until it follows the strategy horn and move! . This is also not so easy as sometimes there may be a traffic jam and in that case, this will not work, so there needs to be a situational awareness on when to apply this strategy for moving forward and when not to ! This is the sole reason that , At Starkenn Technologies we continuously keep improving control strategies of our AEBS to make it India Specific to take care of not so "global" scenarios . YOKOHAMA, Japan — Nissan Motor Co. wants to commercialize a self-driving ride-hailing service around Japanese cities in 2027 as the erstwhile autonomous car pioneer becomes the latest to try launching a paid robotaxi venture. Japan's No. 3 carmaker begins testing its autonomous shuttle service in downtown Yokohama in the fiscal year starting April 1, said Kazuhiro Doi, head of global R&D. Nissan's service will expand over the following two fiscal years to accepting riders in a fleet of self-driving Serena family vans. The vehicles, brimming with lidar, cameras and radar sensors, will initially operate at Level 2 autonomy, with a safety driver onboard as a backup. That level of driving, as outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers, allows a car to operate autonomously in most situations but requires a human to supervise and intervene when needed. Nissan's goal is to eventually ditch the safety driver and deliver fully autonomous, or Level 4, driving in the fiscal year starting April 1, 2027. That hinges on the success of initial trials and the Japanese government's progress in implementing rules of the road for fully autonomous driving. Currently, the country has no guidelines for widespread Level 4 driving on public roads. "We can't decide this all by ourselves," Doi said of the country's adoption of Level 4 regulations during a Wednesday briefing at Nissan's global headquarters here south of Tokyo. Nissan's announcement follows a similar move by rival Honda Motor Co. Last year, Japan's No. 2 automaker said it would begin a commercial robotaxi service in Tokyo in 2026 through its partnership with General Motors-backed autonomous driving company Cruise.
