Exciting News for PhD Aspirants! The UGC has recently implemented a groundbreaking measure to streamline the admission process for PhD programs, marking a significant milestone for students across the nation. Traditionally, the UGC NET result served as a qualifying criterion solely for assistant professor and JRF awards. However, under the new guidelines effective from June 2024, the UGC NET score will now also play a role in determining eligibility for PhD admission. This initiative not only simplifies the application process but also eliminates the need for students to undertake multiple PhD entrance exams. It aims to provide a fair and standardized platform for all aspiring scholars. For further details regarding the determination of the eligibility of NET score for different categories, kindly refer to the attached file. However, it's important to note that further notifications regarding the criteria for Ph.D. admission for students who have already qualified both NET and JRF are awaited.

Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), has announced that UGC NET scores can now be used for PhD admissions starting from the 2024-25 session. This decision eliminates the need for separate entrance exams for PhD admissions and allows NET scores to be valid for a year for admission to PhD programs. Candidates in Categories 2 and 3 can benefit from this new policy. The UGC NET June 2024 application process is expected to commence soon, as per Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar. This change marks a significant shift in the PhD admission process, streamlining it and potentially increasing accessibility for aspiring researchers.

Education is More Than Passing Exams: Words of Wisdom from my HOD. 📌 Being a student of Physiology at the Federal University of Technology Akure, means striving for more than just academic excellence—it's about achieving all-round excellence. Yesterday, our Head of Department, Dr. Temitope Adedeji, led a renal physiology class that was truly enlightening. He used real-life examples to explain complex concepts, making the class lively and interesting. One comparison that stuck with me was to aqueducts, illustrating how blood moves from large to small arteries and how urine is expelled from the body. He explained how nephrons produce urine, which then passes through the renal papillae into the minor and major calyces, to the renal pelvis, and finally through the ureter to the bladder for storage before excretion. As he wrapped up the class, he left us with a powerful message: "Education is not just about passing. Education is about knowledge." He urged us to shift our focus from merely getting good grades to truly understanding and applying our knowledge. This resonated deeply with me. Good grades might open doors, but it's knowledge and skills that allow us to seize and utilize opportunities fully. By the end of the class, I had not only learned about renal physiology but also gained a broader perspective that challenged my thinking. Students with 4-year UG degrees can pursue a PhD in any subject, irrespective of the discipline: UGC Chairman According to University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Jagadesh Kumar, students holding four-year undergraduate degrees are now empowered to take a direct route towards their PhD aspirations by appearing for the National Eligibility Test (NET). This marks a departure from the traditional prerequisite of a master's degree for NET eligibility. A candidate with a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree with 75% marks or equivalent grades is eligible for PhD admission according to UGC PhD Regulations. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade is allowed for those belonging to SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), differently abled, economically weaker sections as provided in the Regulations.
