To tackle greenwashing and climate disinformation, our member Aditi Tandon shared vital insights for #journalists in a webinar by Google News Initiative and DataLEADS: "For journalists, knowing how to identify #greenwashing and unethical practices is important to ensure that they put out accurate information which empowers informed decision making. Meanwhile amplifying authentically sustainable companies helps drive positive change and build #consumer support for ethical practices. By calling out greenwashing, journalists can support and educate consumers on malpractices. At the same time journalists play a crucial role in amplifying the voices of ethical companies and inspire consumer choices towards them. The basic, #goodjournalism practices -- asking many questions, talking to diverse sources and verifying information -- are the starting point for journalists to identify misinformation and greenwashing. #Ecofriendly, #organic, #natural, #green, #chemicalfree - there are so many misleading labels out there and a training on greenwashing helps journalists question and validate the authenticity behind such labels."
