One year. WOW! This year was arguably one of the hardest of my life, yet somehow, one of the happiest. This year unfolded as a paradox – a blend of adversity and joy. External forces, beyond my control, constantly sought to divert my path in building this business. I take immense pride in having successfully navigated through the storm(s), hopping back on the horse after obstacles were continuously thrown my way. Through the storms, I not only experienced challenges but exceeded my own expectations. To my fellow entrepreneurs dealing with non-business-related hurdles, recognize that your resilience is not just commendable but resonates with those navigating similar journeys. The entrepreneurial journey is a constant 24/7 commitment, where addressing every non-business related demand is not always possible. To all those courageously riding the entrepreneurial wave, persist – the journey may be demanding, but the rewards are so worth it!

Right, summer’s done. Kids are finally in school. It’s time to get back to business. September’s the time to sharpen your axe so you come out swinging in Jan 24. The agencies that spend this quarter sharpening their positioning and proposition will be the ones winning bigger in the new year. The rest will be told ‘you came a close second’ or ‘we just found someone who ticked all our boxes’. Spend your summer doing whatever. It’s been one of those crazy weeks that you only really get in this industry. We pitched and lost. We pitched and lost, again. Then we pitched…and won. And that made the two other losses seem insignificant. We almost forgot that we had failed. But I think the key to winning, and losing with grace, was not fearing failure. So even the pitches that weren’t successful on paper, were even more successful to the teams that grew through them. And we presented work that we would have been happy to put our name on. Work that pushed the envelope and even challenged the brief. There’s nothing I would have changed. OK there is, but there always is with any Creative Director. The really intense bit is that two of the three pitches happened on the same day we launched the new brand campaign for our biggest client. Which was also the same day I had the immense privilege of delivering the keynote address at the Vega graduation. Picture attached as proof…the one where I look like I’m delivering a sermon. It was a challenging week. I think I’ve been tested like this before and haven’t coped as well as I did this time. But as usual, I simply could not have done it on my own.
