Natural catastrophes such as hail storms and hurricanes pose complex operational challenges for solar asset managers, and they will only increase in both frequency and severity. Operational resilience continues to be imperative in accelerating the energy transition and the fight against climate change. Personally, natural catastrophe strategies are interesting as it sits in between preventing (via the deployment of solar) and adapting (via preparing for extreme weather that's worsened by climate change) to the impacts of climate change. Georgia is consistently in the top 10 solar producing states in the U.S. Georgians are often surprised by this fact (and also that we're currently the #2 manufacturer of solar panels in the U.S. - orders of magnitude above the 14 other facilities). This summer I plan to explore Georgia's strengths and weaknesses in being an innovator in solar technology deployment. Thanks to companies like Sunnova Energy, solar is getting more accessible to families in Puerto Rico, allowing them to be more energy-independent and preventing energy outages from affecting their homes. Having a fixed rate for electricity with solar leads to a much higher efficiency for the consumers' pocket. With the introduction of programs like the Battery Emergency Demand Response Program (BEDR), even more value is added to their solar systems and contributes to grid resilience. ☀️🇵🇷

In the words of Bob Dylan "For the times they are a-changin'"... The #energy⚡️industry faces an uphill 🏔️ battle. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's report says it all, "The Era of Flat Power Demand is Over." In that report FERC predicts the nationwide electricity demand to grow 4.7% over the next five years, which is up ⬆️ from the 2.7% predicted last year. In my opinion this is still a conservative estimate but very large regardless. While there are many driving factors for this load growth like #datacenters 🏢, #industrialdevelopment 🏭, #hydrogenproduction, and #electrification 🔌, the fact still remains that we will need as much cooperation as possible between all areas of the #energyindustry. As I look back on this year, I am confident that the industry has what it takes to provide our future generations with the vital energy they need. I want to thank the #utilities and #engineeringfirms I collaborated with this year and I look forward to a strong 💪 2024. Sunrun has connected over 16,200 customers' solar storage systems to support California's electrical grid during the hot summer months. Their CalReady power plant alleviates grid strain by supplying critical energy to communities in need, reducing costs and preventing power emergencies. For the second consecutive year, Sunrun's solar storage systems have proven to be a reliable grid solution. In 2023, Sunrun's Peak Power Rewards program provided up to 32 MW of power to PG&E from 8,500 customers' batteries during peak hours. This summer, they aim to double that capacity and participant number for the statewide Demand Side Grid Support program.
