New updates to the SAFER Situational Awareness Site. It's a collection of information portals that can help inform your emergency management situational awareness and planning.
Just wanted to let everyone know that we are constantly adding sites to our Situational Awareness Dashboard here on the SAFER site. Recent additions include links to the PurpleAir Weather Monitor Network, Google Flood Hub, EMCR Policies, Canadian Avian Flu Dashboard, FlightRadar24, Flight Aware, and the BC Weather Cams. For us at SAFER, it's all about trying to make things a little easier. That's why we have a "one stop shop" kind of an approach to collecting all these information portals that can help inform your local situational awareness better. You can find the SAFER Situational Awareness Dashboard at https://lnkd.in/gFBVvBHS Please feel free to pass this on to anyone you know who might find it helpful.

A questions we get asked A LOT is... When do you actually decide to start gritting? Well, the process relies heavily on continuous weather monitoring. Our team analyses conditions and forecasts from RealWeather 24/7. A green light for dispatch happens when air and road surface temps align with the predictions. (Allow us to science this up a bit) You see, roadway temps can actually be 5-7 degrees LOWER than the air temp based on conductive factors. So, we often have to play meteorologist and account for this when making the call. Once the data indicates our treatment thresholds are soon to be met, you better believe those texts fly telling the crew to fire up the trucks and load their salt ❄️📲 #lincolnshire #gritting #winterspecialists #lincolnshirebusiness #healthandsafety #lincolnshiregritters #lincolnshirebased #wintersafety

This week, the 2024 NOAA/USCG/EPA voluntary Vessel Speed Reduction (VSR) zones went into effect. 🚢 From May 1st to December 15th (in Southern California) and to December 30th (in San Francisco and Monterey regions), large vessels are strongly encouraged to slow to 10 knots or less while transiting through these zones to reduce the risks of vessel strikes. ⚠️🐋 These specific areas contain populations of federally protected blue, humpback, and fin whales. Whale Safe works to display near real-time whale and ship data designed to prevent fatal ship collisions with these endangered whales. 🐳 As we head into the 2024 season, we’re reflecting on the past 2023 VSR season. We pulled together this season’s vessels and whale stats – check them out at our latest blog post! 👉 https://lnkd.in/gWgRDThd Learn more about Whale Safe at www.WhaleSafe.com 💙
