What do you do when you see your local beach choking with plastic? Do you take charge to clean up the mess or simply complain and blame the authorities? While we debate about if it is our job to pick up the trash we may or may not have thrown, our shorelines are becoming clogged with waste. But have we ever stopped to think about our own civic responsibility? Heavy with pollution to the point of no return, we’re swiftly losing the tide of our natural, open spaces. We can all play our part in bringing change, starting with throwing trash where it is meant to go—in the bins. By minimalising and segregating our waste, and limiting our reliance on plastic. Then maybe, one day, we won’t have to go abroad to enjoy a lovely picnic at a wave-kissed waterfront. We could simply put on our straw hats and go to one nearby. So will we come together to keep our beaches clean or wash our hands off the matter? One man has made it his mission to take up the back-breaking work no one else wanted to do, starting a ripple effect that will inspire you too. In this episode of Sustainable Tea with Shreya, 🌏 Shreya Ghodawat Ⓥ and Malhar Kalambe, environmentalist and founder of Beach Please, discuss the huge plastic problem plaguing the beaches of cosmopolitan cities, how microplastic is polluting our oceans, the deadly consequences it has on both marine and human life, why the ban on single-use plastics failed, his personal growth from an angsty teenager to a ‘Swachhata Ambassador Award’ Recipient, how a one-time beach cleanup turned into an on-going youth-led movement, and why we should strive to be the change we want to see in the world. Founder at EcoCycle Labs | Executive Director at Access Community Capital Fund | Environmental Sustainability & Social Innovation Leader | Keynote Speaker
In an era where the call for sustainable solutions and social responsibility echoes louder than ever, it's imperative for businesses to step beyond conventional boundaries and challenge the status quo. I am reminded of such thoughts and unique ways of thinking when I rewatch videos of the pilot version of something that I felt so passionate about. Our world stands at a critical juncture, facing environmental challenges that demand urgent and innovative solutions. Among these, marine plastic pollution poses a relentless threat to our oceans, affecting not just marine life but also the health and livelihood of coastal and remote communities globally. It's a complex problem that requires more than just a conventional approach—it needs a revolution. But why is innovation like this crucial, and why should we challenge the status quo? The answer is simple: to drive meaningful change. History shows that progress is made by those who dare to dream big and act boldly. By stepping out of the comfort zone and embracing innovative, we can initiate a ripple effect of positive change that extends far beyond our immediate surroundings. Taking chances and investing in new ideas can be daunting, but the cost of inaction is far greater. As we navigate through these challenging times, let us remember that innovation is not just about creating new products or services; it's about rethinking our approach to problem-solving and leading with purpose. Because when we dare to innovate, we don't just change the game—we change the world. #Innovation #Sustainability #SocialImpact #EnvironmentalChange #daretocare #islandofbryan https://lnkd.in/dg6EyvCn

Colourless R-PET flake prices saw sizeable increases in the southern and eastern Europe markets this week as higher bale costs and improved demand drive prices up. Several factors are contributing to the higher flake demand, though there are concerns bale prices are rising too quickly in some markets. #recycling #recycledplastic #plastic #circulareconomy #sustainability

https://lnkd.in/dP4eqi3c 2 impactful things you can do, to support marine sustainability. 1. Reduce Plastic Use: Plastic is a significant contributor to marine pollution. Single-use plastic items such as straws, bottles, bags, and packaging are often disposed of improperly and end up in the ocean. As an individual, you can make a difference by reducing your plastic use. Invest in reusable bags, bottles, and containers, avoid unnecessary packaging, and say no to single-use plastic items. 2. Support Sustainable Seafood: Overfishing is one of the most significant threats to marine life. When buying seafood, choose sustainable options like those certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) or the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC). These certifications ensure that seafood is caught or farmed responsibly, without harming the environment or depleting fish stocks. You can also opt for local and seasonal seafood, as this reduces the need for long-distance transportation, lowering the carbon footprint.

#Kingwhale #Biodegradable #RecycledPolyester #Revio #Sustainability #Innovation #Circularity According to reports, the global market size of biodegradable materials reached 6.16 billion USD in 2020. It is projected to reach 23.35 billion USD by 2026, with an estimated overall production capacity of 5.28 million tons. In 2021, the production capacity was 1.55 million tons. In fact, biodegradable materials have found widespread applications across various sectors, encompassing aspects of daily life. Polyester stands out as the most extensively used fiber in the apparel industry, constituting around 52% of the global fiber production. In 2021, the worldwide consumption of polyester fiber totaled approximately 57 million tons. However, only 15% of the polyester's raw materials were sourced from recycled materials. Using biodegradable materials and recycled polyester contributes to waste management and recycling. It is not only about environmental protection but also a key aspect of sustainable business practices. At Kingwhale, our commitment to sustainability involves continuous innovation and exploration of various possibilities. I learned about the Amsterdam City Doughnut from this post and I thought about Mumbai, India. How can we inspire change? Put climate ahead of GDP? How can we thrive AND stop using the trillion-dollar narrative (by 2028)? Read about the City Doughnut Tool here https://lnkd.in/d9CkRbB2
Fishing for bikes 🥹 15.000 are dumped in Amsterdam canals. Each year. It's my city . Amazing things are happening here, especially for the #circulareconomy. The city launched the "Amsterdam City Doughnut", a tool for transformative action. Amsterdam wants to be 100% circular by 2050. We citizens have to be that change. I am sure we together can share more examples of wasteful behaviour - from all over the world. Not to complain; but to alert each other. To inspire change. We have to treat our resources more carefully! Which eye-opening examples have you seen? #waste #environment Thanks Nathan Resnick for the original post.

https://lnkd.in/dm_Ktube Your 10 steps to Marine sustainability. 1. Educate yourself: Stay informed about the issues facing our oceans, such as overfishing, plastic pollution, and coral reef degradation. Understand the impacts these issues have on marine ecosystems and biodiversity. 2. Reduce plastic consumption: Make an effort to reduce the amount of single-use plastics you use in your daily life. Opt for reusable alternatives, such as reusable water bottles, shopping bags, and food containers. Avoid products with unnecessary plastic packaging. 3. Support sustainable seafood: Choose to consume seafood that is caught or farmed using sustainable practices. Look for labels such as the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification or the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification when purchasing seafood. 4. Minimize chemical pollutants: Be mindful of the chemicals you use at home, as they can find their way into the oceans through wastewater systems. Reduce the use of toxic cleaning products and opt for environmentally-friendly alternatives. 5. Participate in beach cleanups: Join local beach cleanup initiatives to help remove litter and debris from shorelines. This helps prevent the waste from entering the ocean, where it can harm marine life. 6. Support conservation organizations: Donate or volunteer your time for NGOs and nonprofits dedicated to protecting marine ecosystems. Organizations such as Oceana, Conservation International, and The Ocean Foundation work towards marine sustainability and could use your support. 7. Advocate for change: Use your voice to raise awareness about marine sustainability issues. Write to your local representatives or join advocacy groups that fight for policy changes related to marine conservation. Support initiatives and campaigns that aim to protect and restore our oceans. 8. Practice responsible boating and diving: If you enjoy boating or diving activities, follow responsible practices. Respect marine life and their habitats, be cautious not to damage coral reefs, and never discard trash or fishing-related items overboard. 9. Promote sustainable tourism: When traveling to coastal areas, choose tour operators and accommodations that follow sustainable tourism practices. Support businesses that prioritize environmental conservation and minimize their impact on marine ecosystems. 10. Encourage others to take action: Share your knowledge and passion for marine sustainability with friends, family, and colleagues. Encourage them to adopt sustainable practices and spread the word to further amplify your impact. Arivo.online
