For Women’s History Month, we’re recognizing the successes and achievements of BARDA employees. Meet Connie Song, Lead Contract Specialist, Division of Contract Management and Acquisitions. One of Connie’s greatest career achievements to date is having the opportunity to support the BARDA mission and working with such a talented and dedicated group. She added, “specifically providing contracting support to the Division of Research, Innovation and Ventures (DRIVe) in launching new and novel program initiatives.” Connie’s advice to young women who are just starting their professional careers is: “stay true to yourself and pursue your passions. Those incremental steps (some of which will feel like steps backwards) toward achieving every goal you set out to tackle is part of the experience that makes those more challenging moments worthwhile — there’s no failure in learning.” Women strengthen public health and national security with their dedication to meaningful work. As the year draws to a close, it's a natural time for individuals and organizations alike to engage in reflection, contemplating the lessons learned and using that insight to enhance future outcomes. This reflective practice is not merely an annual routine; rather, it is intricately woven into the very fabric of our existence. Whether at the level of individuals, companies, communities, countries, or humanity as a whole, the perpetual quest for improvement is evident. On a personal level, this may involve taking steps to enhance one's career, relationships, finances, health, meaning, and overall well-being. Over the course of generations, these continuous small advancements accumulate, resulting in remarkable progress in fields such as science and technology, shaping how we live in and understand the world today. Recognizing this inherent drive for improvement, there is arguably no better time in our history than the present. While the pursuit of personal growth is an ongoing journey, it's equally important to carve out space for gratitude and to savor the present moment. After all, the present is the culmination of our past efforts and hard work. What are you grateful for today?
