Shopify gets deeper into the carbon removal game with its collaboration with Running Tide, a US-based startup. Running Tide's method involves sinking wood in the Atlantic Ocean, effectively sequestering carbon for millennia. This process not only prevents the wood residues, which would have otherwise been burned and emitted CO2, but also ensures long-term carbon storage. With Shopify being one of the first buyers of these carbon removal credits, this partnership underscores the potential of novel approaches in the fight against climate change. As we seek sustainable solutions, ventures like these highlight the importance of exploring unconventional methods to address our planet's pressing challenges. #CarbonRemoval #Innovation #Sustainability

How did I get into Climate-tech? Since I’m very young I know I want to be an entrepreneur I started my first business when I was 12 years old, importing electronics from the US to sell them online in Argentina. After a few years and hundreds of products sold, I became the “entrepreneur” in my group of friends, and as such lots of them offered me to start businesses together. But I only wanted to do innovative things. Then, my friend Gaston Stoliar showed me a product that was solving a problem that we had, which he saw in the US, but was not possible to find in Latam, a cape for men to shave the beard without making a mess in the toilet. We validated the market, hired a designer, got providers, partnered with a factory, and opened the company, Le Barbier. The next year we got to sell to tens of distributors across the country, the biggest one was buying 1,500 units per month, which led us to sell to Philips, for them to utilize our product for their launching campaign of the One-Blade in Argentina. Le Barbier was a great learning experience for me on how to start a company, how to ideate and make reality a product, sell to corporates, and so on. I started to get involved in the startup ecosystem in Buenos Aires, where I got to hear about the “Impact”. I realized that my purpose was not to build a company but to make an Impact. So we moved our production of Le Barbier to a textile cooperative of ex-convicts that had difficulties getting a job. After such an experience, I understood that I wanted to make a huge impact, which is possible by creating a disruptive technology that is economically viable in the way it gets to be globally adopted. I started to read about climate change and got to the conclusion that is the biggest problem of our era that technology can tackle. So, this became my purpose, also due to my love for nature (for a separate post). As a result, I left Le Barbier’s business to my partner and moved to my next endeavor with my friend Tomás Gloviar, "Green Kiri", a developer of sustainable projects, after 2 weeks in the ideation we got our first client, a 70 hectares sustainable hotel! After we delivered the design for the hotel, I decided to come to Israel to learn more about Startups and Renewable Energy, and 4 years later I feel I am a step closer to fulfilling my purpose of making an impact on the environment with disruptive technologies (lots of steps to go though).

Are carbon removal startups stagnating? In the world of green startups, there are 100s of new companies that work on pretty innovative ways for carbon removal from the atmosphere. Reducing CO2 to fight climate change involves two parts: - Reducing the release of new carbon emissions - Cleaning up existing CO2 But despite the startup boom in the carbon removal market, the demand remains low. The reason is pretty straightforward - its cost. It's cheaper for businesses to pick sustainable methods of production that reduce CO2 emissions, but it's costly to clean up existing carbon levels. For us to reach net-zero goals by 2050, the world collectively needs to remove 5 billion tons of carbon every year. Is it time we shift focus to carbon removal efforts as sustainable production becomes more mainstream? Image source: Canva #Green #Business #Climate

FUNDING ALERT: Running Tide lands $54 million for ocean-based carbon removal! 🌊 Exciting news coming out of Maine! Running Tide, a startup in the carbon removal sector, announced a $54 million Series B round led by Lowercarbon Capital. 💵 On top of this, they also announced the completion of their very first carbon removal operation in the open ocean. This breakthrough, backed by their first customer Shopify, delivered 100 carbon credits. 👏👏👏 Running Tide leverages the ocean’s natural ability to store carbon through kelp. Their ambitious plan, the OceanOS, is an integrated operating system combining logistics, tech, software, and earth science to scale up one of the world's most affordable carbon removal methods – the ocean itself. 🪸🦑🦈 Did you know that the ocean has the capacity to transfer 10 BILLION tons of fast carbon back to the slow carbon cycle annually? This solution stands out against other nature-based carbon removal solutions, such as tree planting, which fail to tackle fast carbon in the same way. 🌳 With the global economy lagging behind in decarbonization efforts, ventures like this are critical. Carbon removal is now considered essential to hitting climate targets. 🌍 What are your thoughts on ocean-based carbon removal methods? Share below! 🔽 #carbonremoval #oceanhealth #climatechange #sustainability #decarbonization #climate #carboncredits #carboncapture #innovation #technology #startups

🌱 Leveraging Integrity-Driven Technology for Impactful Ecofinancing 🌍 Hello LinkedIn community! 👋 Today, I want to shed light on the significance of integrating integrity-driven technology to enhance impact-based ecofinancing in entrepreneurship. With climate change becoming an ever more pressing issue, it is crucial for both individuals and businesses to prioritize eco-friendly consumption and contribute to climate action mitigation and adaptation. 🌿 Ecofinancing, the practice which supports environmentally friendly initiatives, plays a pivotal role in driving sustainable growth and harnessing the power of entrepreneurship to combat climate change. By aligning financial resources and investments with green projects, we can accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy and build a resilient future. 💡 So, how can ecofinancing help scale up efforts in climate change mitigation? Here are three key benefits: 1️⃣ Mobilizing Capital: Ecofinancing provides entrepreneurs and businesses with the necessary resources to implement sustainable technologies and green solutions. This support propels innovation and helps scale up climate-related initiatives, ensuring they have a real and significant impact on reducing carbon emissions and adapting to the changing environment. 2️⃣ Creating Incentives: By integrating ecofinancing into business models, companies can align financial incentives with sustainability goals. This approach encourages the adoption of eco-friendly practices, products, and services, fostering a culture of responsible consumption at both individual and organizational levels. It empowers consumers to make informed choices and promotes environmentally conscious decision-making. 3️⃣ Fostering Collaboration: Ecofinancing enables collaboration among diverse stakeholders, including investors, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and communities. By pooling resources, sharing knowledge, and leveraging integrity-driven technologies, we can foster an ecosystem that supports collective efforts in addressing climate change. This collaborative approach enhances the effectiveness and impact of ecofinancing initiatives, ensuring a more sustainable and resilient future for all. Let us harness the potential of integrity-driven technology to amplify the impact of ecofinancing in entrepreneurship, creating a positive ripple effect for climate action. Together, we can drive meaningful change, promote eco-friendly consumption, and make a significant difference in tackling climate change. 🚀 #Ecofinancing #ClimateAction #Sustainability #Entrepreneurship #IntegrityDrivenTechnology #ImpactfulChange
