Implementing solutions to adapt to the impacts of the climate crisis – like hurricanes and extreme weather events is really simple: - A global investment of $1.8 trillion in early warning systems, climate-resilient infrastructure, improved agriculture, and resilient water resources could generate $7.1 trillion through a combination of avoided costs and a variety of social and environmental benefits. “A new report from the First Street Foundation, a non-profit research group, finds that if proper account is taken of climate risk, nearly a quarter of all properties in the continental United States are overvalued.“ 😯 Insurability should be at the top of transition risks in high climate risk areas. As you prioritize investments, how are you making your buildings more resilient and hence more insurable? And if climate risk isn’t considered in your due diligence programs, have you asked why not? 💰 If the assertion in The Economist is half right, imagine the strategic advantage investors will have that consider climate risk in their underwriting. I have some of the best climate scientists on my team coupled with real estate M&A experts, ready to help you navigate these complex data sets. 🤙 https://lnkd.in/gM25Zvbv Climate change is coming for America’s property market from TheEconomist

We have a lot of work to do beyond transitioning to renewable energy. We need systems changes in governments, disaster relief agencies, insurance business models, zoning, and building codes. And we must change. We must become climate literate so we can predict weather vulnerabilities better. We must adapt – move out of harm’s way, rewild coastlines so they buffer the winds and storm surges. #systemschange #climateresilience David Houle Tomás O'Leary David Ross - VUCA Strategist. Redlining is the gift that keeps on giving. 😡 Even today, Black communities that were excluded from mortgage insurance in the 1930s are disproportionately “concrete jungles,” and are located next to hazardous and waste dump sites. When flooding occurs, there aren’t enough impervious surfaces to absorb water and the water itself is more likely to contain harful chemicals. That’s ONE way redlining’s legacy will continue to be felt. Read on for more of the impact. https://lnkd.in/gUnWmZaH #climatechange #racialjustice #environmentalimpact #environmentalracism #dei #deib #equity #inequality
