It's NAIDOC week, and this year's theme is Keep the Fire Burning: Blak, Loud, and Proud. This years theme focuses on celebrating the cultural resilience of First Nations people, their profound connection to the land and traditions, and their pride in their First Nation identity. "It embodies our purpose, calling us to celebrate and honour the strength and vitality of our cultures." As an organisation, we have been putting to task the recommendations from NAIDOC - here’s three things you can do: - Check your local council for events: https://lnkd.in/dexeVKVM - If you cannot attend an in-person event, here are other ways to participate: Follow and engage with First Nations creators online, attend online events, and watch movies and shows featuring First Nations stories. Learn the traditional names of the land you live on and its owners. - Follow, like and share some cool people who are posting interesting content, here are some of our favourite current and upcoming leaders: https://lnkd.in/gy8U6aks https://lnkd.in/gfmX8dD5 https://lnkd.in/g3_q2HB #NAIDOC24 #BLAK #keepthefireburning #impactinvesting #indigenousknowledges

The Kleinfelder team took time to acknowledge NAIDOC week and the importance of celebrating the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The team participated in events to learn more about First Nations culture, investigated and presented ways to promote and foster increased Indigenous participation in our industry, and incorporated conscious supply changes to our business. All with the aim of learning how to be the best ally we can be. This NAIDOC week we at Kleinfelder continue to make conscious focused changes and challenge ourselves to learn and do more; for we believe even today’s smaller deliberate changes can become the instinctive strides forward of tomorrow. #NAIDOC2024

The 2024 NAIDOC week of acknowledgement and celebration concluded yesterday, Sunday 14th July. This year’s theme was ‘Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud’. Though the week is over, we must continue to ‘Keep the fire burning!’ – through education, conversation and advocacy. I will share some facts which I learnt over the past week. 1) Originally, NAIDOC was known and registered as NADOC (National Aborigines Day Observance Committee). In1991, the title was changed to NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee). This was to reflect the unique and distinct cultural histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 2) Keep the Fire Burning! – this year’s theme of fire is a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 3) Acknowledgement of Country – why is this important? Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have long been excluded from many parts of Australian society. Acknowledging, and recognising, the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in events, meetings etc helps to ensure society ends that exclusion; and demonstrates respect to the traditional custodians of the land. 4) You can learn more about the Country you reside and/ or work on from your Local Council website, or the AIATSIS map of Indigenous Australia is a great reference and source of information. Drop an ember – Ignite the Fire – Keep the Fire Burning! #NAIDOC2024

This year’s NAIDOC Week will again celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with the theme of “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud”. ANZSOG acknowledges the importance of NAIDOC Week as a celebration which honours First Nations peoples and reminds us of the importance of our own journey to become a culturally competent organisation, making a positive contribution to First Nations policy and public administration. Held across Australia from 7-14 July 2024, this year’s NAIDOC Week recognises the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire as a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In NAIDOC week, and throughout the year, ANZSOG stands with the First Nations of Australia and supports aspirations for a just and equitable relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, and for First Nations communities to have control over their own lives. Despite the progress we have made, there are still many structural and cultural changes that need to happen within public services to make this a reality, and we are proud that ANZSOG is working to help make those changes happen.

It's NAIDOC Week 2024! And proud Samuawgadhalgal, Torres Strait artist Deb Belyea is the winner of this year's NAIDOC Week poster competition – here is what Deb says of the winning work, Urapun Muy. “‘Urapun Muy’, from the Kalaw Kawaw Ya dialect of the Top Western Islands of the Torres Strait, means ‘One Fire’. The title of this work pays homage to Torres Strait Islanders and Aboriginal people everywhere, as we all have that one fire; our passion for our culture. In this work, I have depicted the hands of our ancestors that have carefully dropped a burning ember on to a fire. This ember burns hot with intensity, stoking the flames, as it combines with the new fire. The linear detail shows the energy and power as cultural knowledge is transferred from our ancestors to us today. Culture is the fire that gives us knowledge, wisdom and purpose. It is our responsibility to maintain, practice, and pass on our fire to our future generations. After all, Culture keeps us Blak, Loud and Proud.” At #AscottAustralia, we are committed to listening more, learning more, and forming more partnerships that will support First Nations communities in meaningful ways. We are striving for a future that honours our First Peoples. #NAIDOC2024 #NAIDOCWeek #BlakLoudProud

We did this and it was AWESOME. I spoke on the topic Cyberwise: Securing Africa's Digital Future where I spoke about how thinking differently about cybersecurity as more of a people problem than just a technical issue, establishing a continental collaborative policy where African countries work together, share resources and remove bottlenecks and making cyber security laws very responsive and human focused by including cyber Trauma Counseling for victims. I called it the T. E. A. Truly life changing.

🖤 💛 ❤️ HAPPY NAIDOC WEEK ❤️ 💛 🖤 Blak, Loud and Proud! At times it can be difficult to keep the fire burning however every time resilience, strength, unity, resistance, relationships, respect and honoring our culture always reminds me to keep the smoke, the flame and the fire going. Our ancestors always stood up for what's right and have paved the way for 60,000 years. It's so important to share stories, traditions, ways of knowing, being and doing and learn from our elders to keep the longest living culture thriving. Learning and working with our people requires deep listening, understanding, respect and strong relationships to then take action towards achieving equal rights, and sovereignty. Especially when it comes to health outcomes. For many years I have been listening to community, actively learning my culture and ways, co-creating spaces to help our people thrive in our own self-determined way. Working to decolonise constructs in corporate environments, and ensure First Nations Ways and proper ways are upheld which doesn't force us to assimilate but rather bring our own unique perspective to the spaces we work, live and play in. To work with First Nations peoples and community it requires a deep understanding and commitment beyond ticking a box, or meeting a % target. It involves understanding ways of knowing, being and doing and upholding cultural humility, responsibility and taking on the colonial load. It's about forming, building and strengthening meaningful relationships that acknowledge historical ways and support self-determination, to strive for outcomes that are equitable and inclusive. NAIDOC week is a celebration to amplify and celebrate First Nations culture and voices. Join in the celebration this week with your local community; https://lnkd.in/gwtEnbGP Happy NAIDOC Week you Mob! #NAIDOCWEEK2024 #BLAKLOUDPROUD
