#donoradvisedfunds funds (#DAFs) and the East Bay Community Foundation mission-based funds are a great way to give to your local community. Consider making an online cash gift if you want it to count towards possible 2023 tax deduction. Otherwise, consider your philanthropy budget for 2024 and start preparing in January - that way you can fund your favorite cause areas in a steady manner throughout 2024 without having to wait until year-end. A #philanthropy budget is a great way to stay on target with your mission-based interests & cause areas versus responding to “asks” throughout the year and realizing you might have budget shortfall for areas you personally care about. #donoradvisedfunds #donors #taxdeductions #missiondriven
There's just a few days left in 2023 to make your tax-deductible donations to help create a sense of home and belonging for all East Bay residents. More than just four walls, home also means having family-sustaining jobs, healthy neighborhoods, nourishing arts and culture, equitable public services, and responsive local government. Join us and donate to create an East Bay where everyone can dream, heal, and belong. https://lnkd.in/eikf3z_w

This #GivingTuesday lets rally to support programs that make a tangible difference and literally save lives like Youth ALIVE! Oakland's anchor community-based organization for violence prevention, intervention, and healing. Consider this: · $50,000 runs one of our Teens on Target violence prevention program sites for 6 months. · $25,000 helps 15 grieving families bury a loved one if the state denies their appeal. · $10,000 means 300 middle school students learn the skills to talk a friend out of using a gun. · $5,000 provides 10 gunshot wound survivors with services proven to prevent re-injury, retaliation, and further violence · $2,500 stabilizes a family impacted by violence. · $1,000 covers a TNT student’s stipend, a critical, first paycheck for many. · $250 amplifies the story of a survivor advocating for systemic change. I hope you'll join me by making a donation today to build a safer and more compassionate future. Donate here: https://shorturl.at/clPW9

After I packed my kid off to school in pyjamas for 'Pudsby Day' (please no one correct her!) I sat down to put together a list of children and family charities near us to decide after school who to donate to. You see her school don't do collections at school, because it creates pressure on kids who may not be able to. One of the many reasons I love the place. But they don't stop there. This is the message we received: "We would ask you to support something you feel is deserving. Look locally, nationally and abroad and support in any way you can. This then becomes an area or cause you as a family care about. Sadly, there are all too many examples of children in need." I love this even more. Because it encouarges families to think more deeply about children 'in need' and create more of a connection, and take action that works for them. This directly addresses some of the things that are problematic about Children in Need. This thread from Cathy Reay sets it out so clearly. https://lnkd.in/eKVdvvBN In short - Children in Need has a massive platform but doesn't use it to influence for change in the systems that are creating this 'need'. The way it uses stories is exploitative of the people it sets out to support. It doesn't genuinely connect donors with the work to create lasting relationships. And the funding model prevents charities working in the ways they know are needed. I mean, they're not alone. There is so much need for change in our sector, and they are just one organsiation. But they are one with an ENORMOUS platform they could use to lead the way. And the irony is, so many charities they fund have changed the way they work and the way they talk about their work - empowering, walking alongside, and most importantly fighting for change in the systems that lead to 29% of children in our country living in poverty. But too many of our funders haven't got the message, and aren't empowering us to do the work. And we need them to start listening, and working with us to drive the changes our society needs.

Director, Internet Technology at Internet Society - I look for patterns. I connect dots. I share what I see.
THIS is an excellent video showing the power of #CommunityNetworks to get people #InternetAccess when they don’t have (or can’t afford) other options. Excellent work! We need to get the #InternetForEveryone and this is certainly one way to extend #Internet connectivity to more people…
In 2020, LaShawn Williamson founded Wave 7 Communications, a new Internet service provider in the rural community of Enfield, North Carolina. Wave 7 works to provide the community with fast, affordable, and reliable Internet service. It also partners with a local nonprofit, the Community of Hope Center, to teach digital skills to senior citizens. In collaboration with Truist, we helped fund these efforts through the Expanding Potential in Communities (EPIC) Grant Program. Our work with Wave 7 brings us closer to realizing our vision of an #InternetForEveryone. Donate today to support more efforts like this as we grow and protect the Internet: https://ow.ly/NxK350RK1BM
