#research_news #nuclearphysics #CERN #SuperKEKB A collaboration of scientists from the Department of Nuclear Physics and High Energy at the Faculty of Physics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv has taken on the ambitious task of searching for phenomena that are classified as New Physics. Prof., D. Sc. Volodymyr Aushev and Prof., D. Sc. Igor Kadenko, as well as PhD Yurii Onishchuk and PhD Olga Gogota are official participants in the Bellé II experiment, which is being conducted at SuperKEKB on the world's record-breaking collider. The experiment is one of the five highest-priority national basic research projects in Japan. 💭Belle II is among the world leaders in particle spectroscopy, with the world's most accurate values of many physical parameters. We have an impressive list of research topics in a dozen different areas. In particular, we are talking about the search for dark matter particles, testing the universality of leptons, and the search for exotic quark structures that do not occur in nature but can be born at the collider and live only for a very short time. For example, a proton consists of 3 quarks, and here we have already discovered a particle that contains 5 quarks💭, says Volodymyr Aushev. Accelerator, detector and methods for processing huge arrays of experimental data (including artificial intelligence methods) are constantly being improved, using the latest technologies. Therefore, in the coming years, we will reach a new level of capabilities in research opportunities in the coming years. The potential for new breakthroughs and discoveries is very high! 🔍In our recent paper, led by recent PhD graduate Dr. Stefano Marin, we present new results of neutron and gamma ray emissions as a function of fission fragment mass in the spontaneous fission of Cf-252. 💼This work makes use of a fission chamber to measure the kinetic energy and mass of the Cf-252 fission fragments. The fission chamber is operated in time coincidence with an array of organic scintillator detectors, which measure the neutron and gamma ray emissions! 🎯The result shown in the figure below shows the dependence of the average number of gamma-rays emitted by a fission fragment as a function of the fission fragment's mass. This message announces the opening by the end of this year of a post-doc position in Nuclear Theory that should start at the beginning of 2024 – not later than next February - at the Department of Mathematics and Physics of the University “Luigi Vanvitelli” in Caserta (Italy). The duration of the fellowship is 18 months, and the monthly net salary amounts to 1.9 kEuro.    The Nuclear Theory group at University “Luigi Vanvitelli” is going to investigate the properties of the equation of state of infinite nuclear matter starting from low-energy effective theory (LEEFT) Hamiltonians, as well as to derive shell-model effective Hamiltonians and decay operators aimed to study beta-decay properties of nuclei that are candidates to the observation of neutrinoless double-beta decay.   In low-energy effective theory, the effective degrees of freedom can be either nucleons (pions are integrated out) and/or clusters, typically alpha particles. Then, only contact interactions take place among nucleons/clusters, organized in a systematic expansion.   The official call should start during October 2023, and we ask you to spread the news of our post-doc position among young scientists who may be interested to challenge themselves in such a research topic, and are versed in many-body nuclear physics with realistic nuclear forces. These ripples, known as #GravitationalWaves (GW), are created by massive objects like black holes moving and interacting in #spacetime. Dr SHAILESH KUMAR, a National Post-Doctoral Fellow (N-PDF) at IITGN, is studying GWs from unique #BlackHole systems like extreme mass-ratio inspirals (#EMRIs). His work aims to test Einstein’s theories of general relativity, pushing the boundaries of our understanding of #gravity.
