I think both stability and balance, separately or in combination, are better controlled by an external vs. an internal AFO. An external AFO controls the shoe and keeps it flat on the ground preventing inversion/eversion with maximum surface area thus not allowing the edge of the shoe to catch and create imbalance and lead to a fall.

The ERIS team is happy to announce that Prof. Dr. Ir. Maitane Berecibar and her team, which includes Drs Sazzad Hosen and Theodoros Kalogiannis, have been awarded a EU project entitled: “THOR: Innovative methodology for battery testing”. Congratulations! 🎉 This proposal is part of the topic HORIZON-CL5-2022-D2-01-07 – Digitalisation of battery testing, from cell to system level, including lifetime assessment (Batteries Partnership). 14 proposals were submitted to this call topic and only 3 got awarded, a success rate of 21%.   THOR aims to fill the current gap between the market reality of the battery sector and the available skills of the scientific community. On the one hand, the battery sector is rapidly growing and is constantly in demand of cost-effective, performant, durable and safe technologies, and on the other hand we have the scientific community that lacks efficient tools and holistic vision of the system.   The THOR consortium covers the full battery value chain from cell to system scale and, as such this interdisciplinary collaboration combines the necessary knowledge and expertise in Physics, Materials Science, Modelling, and Artificial Intelligence. The consortium comprises 4 industrial partners and 3 research and technical organizations.   The project has started on 1 June 2023 and has been awarded a total budget of: €4,915,350.50.   At VUB we had six projects approved under the call HORIZON-CL5-2022-D2-01 call, of which five are managed by Maitane (and three of which coordinated by her). An interesting thing is that both these projects will have post project activity based on individual organizations having interest and aligned activities in the topics. In both data is central from the developed SiC technologies. For the future the digitalization will be an added dimension for tokenization and embedded sustainability accounting. Dutch Project Revolutionizes New Battery Technology and Manufacturing Processes. We participate in this #NXTGEN project. Our role: Delft University of Technology SEE #battery #research group, headed by prof. dr. ir. Marnix Wagemaker, is to develop the #solid #electrolytes, optimized for the specific NXTGEN #silicon #anodes, and contribute to developing the processing of solid #electrolytes and solid #state batteries, that profoundly differs from existing Li-ion #batteries. Further, bottle neck processes will be investigated, enabling the development of successful solid state battery concepts, using advanced characterization techniques that allow to monitor Li-ion transport and electrochemical processes on the atomic up till mesoscopic scale including neutron scattering at the TU Delft Reactor Institute and solid state #NMR methodologies.
