Funding opportunity here…
Gun violence and domestic violence are intricately connected. The presence of a firearm in a home where abuse occurs increases the likelihood of homicide by 500%. Addressing gun violence is vital to addressing domestic violence. Because of this, the Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund will provide a one-time grant of up to $10,000 to local and state organizations that support victims of domestic violence in their community. Applicants should submit their information using the pre-screen form before September 1st! Selections will be made quickly, so act soon! Now more than ever, it’s imperative to recognize gun violence as a fundamental problem of inequality, fueled by trauma and deprivation, and to demand broad public support for a problem-solving approach to violent crime. Mona Mangat, LISC’s VP for Safety and Justice, and Dr. Shani Buggs, an assistant professor and national gun violence expert, emphasize these points in their latest Philanthropy News Digest article discuss the success of community violence intervention methods and the urgent need for increased support for these effective solutions: https://lnkd.in/eGT4pV6h

Gun violence is not normal, and Americans do not need to accept it as such. We have the tools, strategies, and people to prevent daily tragedies resulting from this violence. But for too long, the federal government has dramatically underspent on proven community-based programs that address the root causes of gun violence, while spending billions in reactive interventions after harmful and fatal incidents have already occurred. It’s time for a proactive approach. Tell Congress to pass the Break the Cycle of Violence Act now to provide federal grants for community violence intervention programs.

As mass shootings and gun-related violence heavily impact Jewish communities around the country, the trickle-down results are spreading… ➖ Some synagogue and JCC members who don’t feel safe onsite stop visiting, resulting in poor attendance and monetary strife. ➖ Members who do show up may be doing so despite their fear, which can impact the positive environment and create toxicity in the community. ➖ Non-members may pass judgment on the synagogue's and JCC's perceived safety, damaging the community's and its congregation's reputation. While it can be difficult to plan for an unspeakable tragedy, the alarming rise in anti-Jewish hate crimes demands action in JCCs and synagogues. On Friday, March 8 at 1 p.m. Eastern, ZeroEyes is proud to sponsor a strategic and tactical discussion on protecting Jewish community centers and places of worship from the emerging threat of gun-related violence. Your hosts: ▪️ Scott Braswell, CEO of California’s Merage JCC of Orange County ▪️ Steve Rogers, CEO of New Jersey’s Kaplen JCC on the Palisades Don’t miss this crucial talk on how Jewish community leaders are standing up to hate and leveraging technology to protect against gun-related violence—reserve your seat now for this online event.
